#1 Hi from Essex - new member

Post by malcolm » Fri Jan 03, 2014 11:00 am

Hi all, thought I'd introduce myself as I've just bought my first E type. It's a 1969 2+2 - at 6ft 2ins nearly, I don't fit in anything else! Besides, I like the space. I've wanted an E type since I went out in a brand new one as a kid in 1963 with a mechanic from the garage where my Dad worked. He went on to race cars (Tony "Strawb" Strawson for any who may know him)
Now in my 60's, I finally got round to buying one, and look forward to talking to some of you who will know far more about them than me!

Hi Malcolm,

Welcome to the forum and to E-Type ownership. I fell for the E-Type at 18 y/o when I saw a BRG series 3 at the Brighton Classic Car show in the early 80s. I finally bought one (a series 1 OTS) 10 years ago albeit in serious need of restoration. 2014 will finally see the bodywork completed although it will be another year or so before I can complete the rebuild. Once complete I'll see if I fit in it as I too and 6'2".

This forum is a wealth of knowledge for the E-Type owner so you've certainly come to the right place.

Btw, we all like to see other peoples cars so post some pictures (there's a guide on the forum for doing so) :)

Cheers,

Neil

Thanks for the reply Neil. I will post some pics, but I don't pick it up until end of next week as it's having a service, new M.O.T etc before I collect it. I'll take some photos and post them then. Must say I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas now!
I did try a series one that had lowish bucket seats, and just fitted in, so hopefully you'll be ok! If necessary, you can apparently give yourself more headroom by taking the seat of the sliding runner and fixing straight to the floor - just won't be able to adjust it after that.

Cheers now

Malcolm

Hi Malcolm.

Yes, I'm planning to omit the runners and/or reduce the seat foam height to help gain as much headroom as possible. Hope the collection goes okay. I feel the same about getting my bodyshell back (due by Spring). All you need is a nice sunny day to take it out, although chance would be a fine thing at the moment - I'm thinking of adding a hull & propeller to mine !

Hi Malcolm,
I've recently bought a 70 2+2, I'm only over the river in Kent.
Brendan, was your car parked up at the back of Druids at the Aston 100th anniversary meeting last year? If so I took a couple of pictures of her.
All the best
Steve.

Hi Malcolm,
I'm only down the road too, near Southend.
Likewise I had to wait till my sixties before I got mine last year, a FHC, also '69. I still haven't got very far up the learning curve !

Thanks for all the replies! Good to know there are a few others nearby. STILL waiting to get mine - I was due to collect it last weekend, but I'd queried the clutch and they confirmed (reluctantly) that it was on it's last legs. So they're putting a new clutch in for me, and I'll hopefully be collecting it next week now.
With a number of people around in E types in kent and essex, any of you up for a run out some time in the Spring?

Lovely car Malcolm, I have a 2+2 for the same reason as you, being taller has its handicaps
