Jut bought a Series 2 4.2L 2+2 from the USA. It need a lot of work....am going to need a lot of help! Am in South Wales, wxpecting the car in the next few weeks. Will post pics

Bore da Steve. Croeso i'r fforwm. The best advice is to arm yourself fully with the relevant books. Series 2 owners are at a slight disadvantage because Jaguar did not do a fully illustrated parts book for the Series 2 cars. Your best bet is to buy J38 which covers the 2+2 or splash out on the labour of love from Richard Liggett who single-handedly compiled an illustrated parts book (see www.xkebooks.com).

This may seem a bit pricey but for anyone with a dismantled S2 who doesn't know the cars it is a must-have IMO. Asking questions and seeking help here is all very well, but there's an inevitable time lag and you might not always get accurate advice from the first responder. There's no substitute for having a book of your own instany at hand and working the jigsaw puzzle out for yourself when and where you need the help.

Of course even with full documentation, and searching the archives here or on www.jag-lovers.org E-type forum, there may still be things that aren't clear, so questions are good and inevitable.

Whereabouts in S. Wales are you? There might be someone not too far away? I enjoyed 4 years studying in Cardiff when I wasn't messing with motorbikes or playing rugby.

Thanks again for good advice. I have a little experience of restoration...do not have any skills in bodywork, mechanics are something I am ok with, electrics / electronics is my background so that part of the restoration will hopefully be the easiest.
Havent taken delivery yet and had a chance to fully assess the state of the car. Wondered what the feelings on the forum were regarding themerits about conversion from LHD to RHD.? I see articles detialing the conversion process. If the dashboard etc on the car is shot then I guess it makes the decision easier. Does conversion have effect on insurance premium, value of car, desirability?

Hi Steve....converting from left to right depends on where u wil be doing most of your driving, a left hander will be really usefull for long continental trips....more important re the value of the car will be converting to European spec, triple Su,s/ manifolds/final drive ratio etc.....Steve
