#1 Hello!!

Post by WIL3543 » Thu Nov 26, 2015 8:11 pm

Just thought I would say hello!

I have wanted an E Type since 1961 when my good friend Mike Hailwood gave me a ride in his brand new drop head Series 1.

It took me until this Summer to get my own which is a 1964 Series 1 FHC.

The car was built to special order in 'Special Blue' the only one as far as I know that left the factory in this colour.

Hope to meet some fellow owners one day soon!!

Welcome to the forum and what a lovely looking car you have. Lots of useful, friendly help, advice and some humour too here.
Tell us more about your car and your friendship with Mike Hailwood, bet that was an interesting demo drive!

Hello Geoff,

Thank you for your reply.

I was quite young when I first met Mike Hailwood, he bought a new Red 3.8
Drop Head which is now owned by Jaguar Heritage. I raced against Mike during the 1970's in various formulae but I couldn't afford an E Type being a very poorly paid race driver!!

I bought my E Type this Summer after looking at loads! It hasn't been restored and one of its owners kept it for 36 years.

The car had been standing for a number of years so I got Pete Lander of Sigma Engineering to look over the engine for me and it runs beautifully now.

I love the car too bits and it completes my little collection of two cars!!

Welcome Wil3543, it is a lovely colour, never seen one like that before, and the white piping on the black seats is quite stylish. Looks to be in great condition overall.
Enjoy the good moments on board!

You say it completes your collection of two cars, so is the AM a company car you drive for a living? Found by clicking on your photo of the 'collection of cars'

BTW, do you have a name?

Great looking car - and always interesting to see one 'outside the norm'.

If you or the previous owner haven't already done so you should upload the car's details to XKE Data so that they can add to the cataloguing of colours:

Thank you so much Ralph, yes it's nice to have the only one in this colour, makes it a little unique!

The car is in wonderful original condition, the previous owners have obviously cherished it, as I will!!

I love driving the car, it is a real pleasure, a total driving experience.

Thanks again for your post,

Best regards,

Mike

Hello again,

Yes I race cars for a living and the AM is a car I race for Goldsmith and Young in the AM GT4 Series, did a couple of races for them this year.

Hahaha, yes I do have a name, it's Mike Wilds....haven't found out how to change my name on the forum yet!!

My small two car collection comprises of the newly acquired E Type and my beloved 1988 Porsche 911 Club Sport, one of only 53 produced.

Best regards,

Mike

You can't! Once you have created a username it cannot be changed. You could always re-register under a different name but you would also have to put in a different email address to the one you used previously. Suggest you simply add your name to your signature - currently "1964 Series 1 3.8 FHC" - to save signing every post with your name.
