Hi All,

I live in East Preston near Littlehampton.

Im a new member , I went out to Texas and bought a 1969 series 2 roadster 4.2.
Its currently on its way to the uk and should be here mid march.
It has very hard bakes that take ages to stop the car,( you have to stand on them) that Im told is the master cylinder, so I plan to change that straight away and the lights need a bit of fettling before I MOT it.
The plan is to try and MOT it as soon as possible then run her for the summer then do some restoration and probably rhd conversion next winter.
Im keen to learn anything and do some of the work myself so if anyone lives near and is working on their car and wants a hand give me a shout I would be happy to lend a hand.
Also if anyone knows of any good mechanics in west sussex that work on e types and are reasonably priced I would love to hear about them.
oh and if some has a set of rear light lens's as well let me know

would love to hear from any members near me.

welcome...you will need to change the lenses for the MOT but you know that. They do show up on ebay from time to time or the usual suppliers will sell you reporductions. Hard brakes sound to me more like the servo is not operating. if the master fails your pedla will go to the floor and you will have (almost) no brakes. Servo issues cause the brakes to feel very heavy as it is only foot pressure operating them (and working agaist the dead servo). Then indeed you will need to tread on them to work. Check the servo has vaccum from the manifold. A leaky vacuum pipe wont help and wont improve smooth running either. If it has vacuum and the servo is at fault chances are it will need some TLC.....and get a hold of a Jaguar workshop manual and a Haynes manual too if you are going to spanner yourself.....home fixing is immensely rewarding, you will find out lots about your car...and if she decides to stop somewhere most likely you will be able to fix

Hi Grant,

Welcome to the forum. Problem with US rear lights is the difference in pattern to U.K. and elsewhere. Lights are not only all red but are side by side rather than stacked orange over red. Therefore normal lenses from a UK spec car don't solve your problems. However, a solution is offered through the forum as one of our members, Marek, makes rear lenses in various forms, including the one you need. Here is a link to the page which shows this.
