The 'E' Type Forum

How do, everybody.

I'm a North Yorkshire based 40-something Mk 2 owner, finally getting round to buying the car I should have bought 13 years ago.

I have been highly impressed with the quality of the advice, the extent of assistance offered, and the general good grace of the forum members, so I'm hoping not to embarrass myself, and try to learn a bit as well as help out if I can.

I'm distinctly average with a set of spanners, have my own windy gun, but only experience of Mk 2s.

I cannot wait to lose a few hours, as I go through the forum postings.

Welcome, there are one or two respected restorers in your neck of the woods.
Ken Jenkins and Ken Verity come to mind, who might be able to help you find a car.
Also our forum member Angus Moss might be able to point you in the right direction.

A lot will depend on your budget and what you are willing to do. Importing a left hooker from the US or Europe has become expensive with the drop in value of the £, and will need various work to convert to RHD and UK spec.

A regular trawl of the interweb will show the vast range of prices asked, though not necessarily achieved. Auctions can work, if you are brave enough and knowledgeable enough. Maybe take someone with you to help.

Have a look at some of the prices being asked and see how you can work with them. Also will you fit? Over 6 feet tall then a 2+2 could be your only choice. Have you looked at any yet?

The three big problems with E Types are: rust, rust and rust. And all expensive to sort out.

Hi Damo, and welcome.

The Mark 2 is a good intro to the E. The E is basically the same car as the Mark 2, except that there is less of it, and what there is, is mostly different from the Mark 2.

But SUs, Lucas electrics, and the XK engine are all pretty much alike.

Good news is that I've bought a S2 4.2 1969 fhc. I'm just sorting having it brought in from US, even with the catastrophic exchange rate. It had to be a 1969, as a present for my 50th. I reckon it'll take me a couple of years to get it fettled then alternate it as my daily driver with my mk 2.

Welcome to the forum, I'm sure that you will find lots of help here for the work on your S2 FHC.
Where in the States is it from ? Any pics ? - That's how I got my one.
Your first challenge is safely importing it (complete) to the UK !

It is coming in from one of those desert states, where they have no rain and humidity in the low teens. It's New Hampshire, so the floors will definitely need welding:
