The 'E' Type Forum

Hi, I am a new member, I am the excited expectant guardian of a USA LHD Series 1.5 Coupe. Should be setting sail soon to the UK (Felixstowe).
Will be looking to do some upgrading and alterations soon.
Looking for local'ish contacts/new friends to talk to help me on my quest.
I have had two Series 1 3.8 Coupes before. One in 1997 and the other in France in 2009.
This will be my final foray !

Your previous experience with E Type’s should stand you in good stead for when you get the 1.5. The splendid chaps in the forum will no doubt be able to fill in any blanks!

How did you come by the 1.5 - did you buy unseen or get someone to check it out?

I’m in South Lincs so not too far away.

Welcome to the forum - There's plenty going on with regards to events in the Derbyshire/Nottinghamshire/Lincolnshire region - keep an eye out for posts from me for the Derbyshire stuff, we get quite a crowd on events now.

Another restorer worth getting to know is Paul Brown, who's not that far away on t'other end of the A610 in Ripley. Huge amount of experience with all series of E-Types and always happy to help or answer questions. He doesn't have a website at present it would seem, but he's reachable on 01773 743188.

Thanks for the tips and welcome chaps. Paul Brown is a new name on me, I'll have to check him out. Have heard good things and not so good things about P K Thornton - what are their strengths and weaknesses ? I am seeking new contacts because all my old E type contacts have either retired or died on me !
I have bought the car unseen from Illinois (not a dry state) but it 'feels' ok.
Will be looking to swap from LHD to RHD and at the same time move to SU's - hopefully over the winter, If I generate enough self confidence.

Hi, again, one question I forgot to ask.
When I register the car - does it need have an MOT ?

All stuff I can find about it on the net seems dated. With the recent changes to MOT rules it now appears not ?
Does anybody know the real truth or is it a submit and see situation ?

Hi Keith.....our cars are mot exempt so you do not need an mot to register....however do not be supprised if the dvla refer you to a company called SGS for an inspection as part of the registration process. ...they will be checking for originality...engine number etc...Steve

If possible when conditions allow it would be great to meet up and see your car ,I used to be in
the motor trade for for quite a number of years so may be able to give some help and advice on projects with your car. Your experience with buying from abroad would be helpful to me as I begin my search for an e type

Welcome to the forum just a quick note about registering your jag ive registered 2 motorcycles from USA in last 6 months. If u don't have a title from USA u need to enclose a letter explaining that u didn't receive a title when u bought it and that's why u have enclosed a dating letter or a heritage cert they sent both of mine back it took 5 months in total with first lockdown. I was fuming if i had a title why would i pay for a dating letter it must be a matter of box ticking on there part no common sense. Ive done quite a few inc my E type over the years and this seems to have just started as ive never been asked for a letter before.If u enclose a few photos
showing all sides plus engine and vin no it helps to sometimes avoid to have it inspected
