New etype owner intro,
#1 New etype owner intro,
So hi people, 38 years old and bought my firt etype serie2 2+2. Always loved the car but never thought i would own one.
The car came to me just buy surprise. Knowing little about its technical state and without any documents... The pitfall of falling in love... I don't want to restore it to perfect, but more want to drive and enjoy it.
I have requested data from jaguar hertiga and all the numbers check out. The chassis number is 1R43850 and the registration mark vhp377h issued by Coventry. And now it becomes difficult. I have understood from jaguar heritage that issueing by Coventry was done to avoid taxes and export. They will not have or share first owner date or country where it went to
I hope someone here can help me to find out more.
Many thanks is advance.

Welcome to the best place for all things E Type, except for being able to tell you where your car was sold to. The records for local vehicle tax offices like Coventry have often been destroyed when vehicle registration went to a national centre, who won’t tell you anything due to data protection.
But please tell us more about the car, is it roadworthy? What work do you expect to need to do?
Ask questions and you’ll get a lot of friendly help and advice, be careful about planning to upgrade as many upgrades are not always good news. That’s where asking here will give you the positive and negative.
Good luck and enjoy your new (old) car.
Geoff

Thx for the welcome and the replies
@mgcjag, yes its on xke-data it's my entry
The car is being checked by local englisch car specialist. He is was happy with the structual state. Looks like the car has been restored before. On the heritage certificate it is britisch racing green. 2 parts in bottem haven been welded in.
The dash is in mph en left hand drive so probably an US export.
I am for sure the car hasn't run since 2013. After cleaning the carbs and sparkplugs and some little adjustment engine runs perfectly. Oil pressure is good, and temperatuur is good too. So that was a big relief.
The first problem is that the clutch is locked. The gearbox moves freely. So i have to find out what the problem is here. Any suggestion much appreciated.
Second thing i have to take a good look at the breaks. Right front break caliper looks a bit sweaty. The rear brake has a lot of corossion. Hope i dont have to remove the rear for fixing.
My goals is to make to make in roadworthy again, no upgrades and just drive enjoy it. Show the beauty of past cars.
with regards Dirkjan

Hi.....clutch...i assume that you have blead the slave cylinder and adjusted the pushrod. ..lack of use can cause the clutch plate to (bond/stick) to the flywheel/clutch cover......i had this on a couple of cars.....you first need lots of heat.....bottom of bell houseing is a hole......use a hair dryer on hot straight into the hole to heat up the clutch...i made a small aluminium funnel so you can get the heat right in...remove spark plugs.....jack up the rear and remove the wheels.... put car in gear 2/3..... press in clutch pedal and press on brake.......now crank the engine with the key.......yes it sounds very drastic......may take quite a few goes but it should release......more heat the better....Steve

#9 Re: New etype owner intro,
Small update: clutch rod moves free so it seems that the clutch itself is working. The main and slave cilinder are completely locked up. So gonne replace those.
About History, Is there someone who know if it possible to track down in import/registrations in US, just by year and registration number.
kind regards
Dirkjan

#10 Re: New etype owner intro,
Update again.
The main and slave clutch cilinders were replaced. The clutch work fine now. So i have been able to more testing.
Gearbox is good.
The breaksystem is good and within the regualations of the Netherlands.
Lights are all working, accept the back interrior light
All gauges are working
Clock not working
I have an appointment made to legialize the car for road use in the end of June.
So all good news here, accept no history information.

That sounds good so far. Possibly a faulty bulb or contact for the rear interior light, you might like to try LED bulbs as they are brighter.
The clock, it might be easiest to send it to Mike Eck for conversion to modern electronics, he did a fine job on mine: https://www.jaguarclock.com/
Good luck with getting it through the testing.
Please add your name and car type to the signature area, it makes it easier for people to respond with the correct advice
