#1 Hello from another new member
Hello all
I thought I'd write a few lines to introduce myself. I have always coveted an E type and circumstances put me finally in a position to own one. I have a history of old Rovers, many P6's and most recently a P5b Coupe which left my stewardship a few years ago. I am currently enjoying all the resources on the forum and have taken out a club membership.
I've been to see a couple of cars so far, the best you can buy seems the current advice as it always was with the Rovers.
Any tips or tips offs would be greatly appreciated, I am in no great rush to buy and will certainly want an expert evaluation before purchase as I'm definitely more driver than mechanic.
Anyway great to be here and thanks for letting me join

Hi, and welcome to the forum! Hope you do well with your search. My only tip would be to take someone very knowledgeable with you to help assess the car. I did, and it saved me a fortune. I think that is what you plan to do?

Thanks Malcolm and Steve. Yes I apparently need expert guidance in most things but especially anything car related Thank you for the heads up regarding Angus and his website, well worth knowing.

Welcome to the forum, Adam. You're in for a fun ride! I would strongly recommend purchasing and reading through Pete Crespin's book. You will want to know what to look for even if you take an expert with you when you look at a possible car.

Thanks Mark I appreciate the advice, I've just bought the Kindle edition from Amazon for the 3.8 and 4.2 as I'm currently leaning towards a 4.2. That said I'm possibly going to see a S3 at the weekend so options still open

The fans are thermostatically controlled and should indeed cut out when the temperature drops to the predetermined level ( IIRC usually something like 75 degs C ) . At this time of year they probably might be expected to operate only for a few minutes at a timeMancamefirst wrote: ↑Mon Oct 25, 2021 4:15 pmPicked up my car late last week. Thanks Steve.
Thanks for the info Christopher. I had the car dropped off with the Forum sponsors straight from purchase. They gave it the once over and noted the fans weren't kicking in at all. They waved their magic stick on this and a few minor gremlins and home I drove. However on the way to storage later In the day the temp gauge started to rise and on arrival things were quite hot. The fans weren't running on arrival. I switched off for a couple of minutes and while things were still v warm, I restarted the engine and the fans ran for about 30 seconds and then stopped again. The place I'm storing the car have a lot of E.type knowledge, they recently completed a full S2 OTS resto so they said they will see whats amiss.
