#1 Potential new member

Post by Rich.a » Fri Sep 17, 2021 2:10 pm

Hi all,

My brother and I are thinking of purchasing a e-type together. We have seen a 1968 series 1 coupe, 4.2 auto we might put an offer on however we were wondering if there are any forum posts for things to look out for on these cars? We would also be interested to hear from any Yorkshire members and if they know of a good specialist garage in the county who we took take a the car to have an inspection done to make sure mechanically its sound.

Thanks and hope to join the club soon all being well.

Hi ....welcom to the forum.....you dont have to join any club to be a member here on the forum. ....its free to all....do your homework and look at as many E types as possible to get a good idea of what you get for tne price your thinking of paying.......as always buy the best you can afford.....no good purchasing cheap then haveing to pay out to sort any problems unless you price this in when viewing......tyres are always worth looking at...the date code....if they are old thats a £1k bill straight away.....you would be supprised how many have old tyres....you definatly want any car your thinking of put up on a lift to view the underside.....good luck and dont rush....Steve

You might want to look at a very similar thread here:

Well worth taking an expert such as the one mentioned (Angus)

Thanks both for your suggestions. definitely not rushing into anything that's for sure.

interesting to know about the tyre situation I will take a note of the year of them. is there a specific format i need to look for to gauge their age?

I did see that post regarding Angus but with him being in Herefordshire & us being in Yorkshire I can't imagine he would travel up here for an inspection plus would be more costly than trying to find someone in Yorkshire that might be as good.

Hi, and welcome.

There's a good chance that someone on this forum knows the car you are looking at. Be cautious when it comes to eBay sales, sometimes the car doesn't exist.

If it's an automatic then it's a 2+2. Not a problem because they are great cars but worth remembering that they are less valued than FHC and OTS cars when factoring in purchase price and repair/restoration costs.

Yorkshire is a big county and there are several people capable of assessing a car for you. Share more information with us and we can guide and advise more appropriately.

Good luck with your search. If you get a good car you won't be disappointed.

Regards
Stuart

Peter Crespin's Essential Buyer's Guide Jaguar E Type covers all of the important things to look at before you write a check. Of particular concern is rust then secondly, rust and finally make a careful check for rust. Once you find the right car for you, that face-cramping grin will be your main concern. Welcome to the club and enjoy the journey!
