#1 Hi all,

Post by Spamcan Gafanha » Tue Aug 16, 2022 7:41 am

A new member from London is here.
Recently, I inherited a Jaguar E-type and its battery seems to not working properly. The car is old and my granny used to ride it a lot.
What options do I have? I don't really want to change it, but repair it. You know original things are hard to find these days.

Ignore me I am :spamcan:

Hi :spamcan: and welcome to the best forum for all things E-Type.
What model E do you have - S1, 2 or 3?

How do you know the battery is original - that would be quite unlikely as they all have a shelf-life and would have been changed at some point in the last 50-60 years. But, there are always exceptions! Can you describe it or take a photo of it and the car?

Yeah, can't possibly be the original battery. Maybe a new battery inside an original looking casing which some do, but can't work after all that time! Just buy a new battery that fits - lots of stuff on this site about that.
Welcome by the way!

The model is S1.
Well, my granny told me she bought the car new a long time ago. And she never has done any changes to her.

If your granny used the car a lot then im sure it was serviced...so who knows what was replaced ...best option now is to replace the battery with a new one.......so the the car will work......then investigate repairing your old "original" one.....Steve

Wow, a one owner from new car - your granny was clearly a lady of impeccable taste and style.
Please post some pictures (using the ‘add image to post’ button at the bottom left of the text pane).

Hi :spamcan: welcome 😊 do you know how long it’s been since the car was last run? If it’s been several years there might be a few preliminary checks needed before you stick a new battery on it and try starting it. Sounds a great car though as it’s been in your family from new 👍

Presumably it shares garage space with your Ford Maverick and Mustang Shelby GT500 whose Forums you also haunt?

Not your fault, I let him in! I was suspicious as his email address is berniepascual410@gmail.com whilst his username is Duncan Gafhana but approved his membership as there were no other red flags but I resolved to watch him.

Still, no harm done and I had a bit of fun with the avatar, name change and a few other things.
