I’d love to see a photo of Lofty squeezing himself into this car. Actually the current owner should show how he manages to shoehorn six feet plus into it
Does anyone know if Lyons ever had his own E Type or did he keep his interest in the saloons?

Whilst I can see the pleasure in owning a car that will never be used in the manner originally intended (driven hard and fast and then sold when something faster comes along) it is not something I would do. I prefer my card to be used. I have a daily driver, plus a S2000 and the E both of which do about 4000 each and every year. And as some listers will know I'm about to add to that small list a 38 year old Bentley, if I can get it running and MOT'd. The three non daily drivers will be driven as summer daily drivers and occasional winter drivers, in all weathers as long as there is no salt in the roads. And I will maintain them all.

It takes a deep pocket to take a 100 point significantly important early car, and commit to reducing those 100 points, rather than wrap the thing in air conditioned luxury in a personal car museum, to be brought out only for high profile events. I tip my hat to the OP, and I hope the car is taken out regularly, shown at events, and driven to the shops or out for Sunday lunch.
Hi Chris,
I note and agree with your comments.
I originally wanted a restored e-type S1 FHC RHD that I could use on a daily basis, then the opportunity to acquire 860005 came along earlier this year. I couldn't resist it because of it's provenance, but quickly realised when it arrived it should really be in a museum or private collection.
It has been driven to local pubs, to pubs for classic car meets and to Tewin Classic Car Show.
It won't be driven on wet roads or generally get wet as I need to make sure it remains in it's current condition when I come to sell it.
So, I will be looking for another e-type at some point in the not too distant future and no worry about it's preciousness.

Hi and welcome, would be glad and excited to look over that beauty if and when the occasion arises.
Hi Danny,
Thank you and look forward to meeting you.
You're most welcome, as is anyone else who might be interested, in looking over 860005 anytime.
Not sure where you're located. I'm in Welwyn, Herts.

Are there any original photos pre registration in 1967 of this car...what was it doing between 61-67....Steve
Hi Steve,
Very little is known about 860005 whilst in Jaguar NYC Showroom's care.
Apparently, they to it around the USA for publicity purposes.
I did find on this forum a photo of a S1 FHC RHD (black & white unfortunately) in front of the Golden Gate Bridge, and wondered if it was 860005.
Stuart Cardwell, who had 860005 restored by CMC ltd, did a huge amount of research into the early USA years, but little was uncovered between 61-67.

Steve : I am not sure what is happening here, but 1600HP is clearly shown on the DVLA database as first registered in December 1961

My E rolled off the production line on 21 Feb 1967 but was registered on 6 October 1967.

Christopher Storey....the On line tax checker isn't necessarily accurate. Mine comes up as December 1981. Mine was initially sold to an engineering company in Derby sometime in June 1962 according to the JDHT having been made on May 8th. I suspect that when county records were all brought together in the late 70's/early 80's the date of registration was entered as either the month if known, the end of the registration year if not, or the end of the year the data was being keyed!
Interestingly my MG shows as registered in Feb 1966 but the BMH certificate says it was made in March 1966!

Welcome to the forum. Quite a few Of us around and about WGC...I'm in Hemel but I frequent WGC quite frequently...my gearbox was rebuilt there...
Hi Julian - It has been a while since sharing on this splendid forum - the e type developed a sticky valve on the rear brakes and what with house moving she has been in storage for too long! I would however be interested in who you used for your gearbox rebuild as I plan to take her out of storage in the new year...

Nice to see another local Etype owner, I'm from Broxbourne and look forward to seeing 005 one day soon.

Hi Richard,
We moved from Hertford to Welwyn earlier this year and 005 was acquired after the move.
Not sure if local E-type owners organise periodic gatherings, but I’d certainly be interested and coming along and taking a good look at the E’s.

Hi Julian,
860005 is undergoing maintenance later this week and won’t be around until at least November.
If anyone is interested in a local get together let’s have some pub location suggestions.

Hello Paul and welcome to this community, Kent Thirley used to organise local meets, but possibly covid changed the formats, there are quite a few E types in the locality - I'll contact him to avoid inadvertently stepping on his toes. But we are spoilt for choice with local hostelries.

I became close to organising some meets at the hotel Hanbury Manor nr Ware, to be held on a Sunday morning a rather nice hotel for we could spread out with space and they were interested in providing a spectacle for the guests....

They were going to lay on Coffee and bacon butties (by sharing with the golfers cabin), one can also use their restaurant so all in all it could be flexible, spacious and a wonderful photographic backdrop away from prying eyes and a location where spouses can enjoy social amenities away from the cars....

Food for thought?

Hi Richard,
I know Hanbury Manor very well and as you say is a beautiful location to meet up.
The hotel would love seeing a bunch of E-Types outside their hotel.

I'm happy for anyone to make the necessary arrangements.
My e-type was taken to Moss Jaguar this morning and is likely to be with Angus for a few weeks or more.
I would love to bring 860005 along too, but happy to just turn up if arrangements are made before I get my E back.

Really looking forward to it and meeting up with everyone.

Bye for now, Paul
