Hello I,m new to the forum and have been a great lover of all things Jaguar for as long as I can remember. Did own a 2+2 for a short time in 1997 but now about to receive a decent pension will be on the lookout for another. Pref a series 1 or 2.....looking forward to good advice....Mick

The only advice I would give is go and drive ( and of course examine carefully) as many as you can. Unfortunately, supply is rather short at the moment so this is perhaps more easily said than done .

I am no expert but it all depends on what price you are prepared to pay. Do you want to restore the car or do you want to buy an already restored car.

The conclusion most people seem to come to is. If you are going to restore the car you will spent nearly the same amount as buying one already done and this excludes you own time in labour which can be many many hours.

Others more experienced will advice on the restoration route. If you can buy one done up by a GOOD enthusiast , he very really takes into account the hours he has spent in labour.

Good advice Tony but a GOOD enthusiast will RESTORE and not 'DO UP'!

Thanks for the replies....would love an 'older restoration' or original car,you know the kind ,creases in the leather,slight paint fade smell of oil,trouble is some older resto's may need a lot of work....I will go and look at some,get a feel. My father worked at Browns Lane during the mid seventies when the e-type was phased out. I remember in 1975 ,him picking me up in a brand new red XJS,can see why people were dissapointed with the 'S' but I still think they look lovely cars....
