Hello all. 9 months after joining this forum I am a series 3, 2+2 in regency red, owner.
It is currently in the garage being inspected, ready for it's Syn (MOT) there are a few minor jobs, but right now we are pleased.

Be prepared for lots of dim questions!

Hej and welcome to the best place for all things E Type. Please add your name and car type to your signature by clicking on your user name top right. That way we can address you politely by your name and know which car type you have for answering your “dim” questions.

Tell us more about your car, when did you buy it (her?), is this your first classic car? Any plans for work needed or exciting trips around Europe? Even, maybe, bringing your car to the place of birth, well at least to Britain?

Have great fun and keep that smile on your face through owning and driving an E Type. Don’t worry about dim or clever questions, we have all had to learn about our cars and there’s a lot of help, advice and information on this forum. Do you have all the owner’s workshop manuals?

This is our first Jaguar, but not my first classic. We chose an S3 as I am quite tall, plus we can always throw the dogs in the back.

We have no plans to drive to the UK, however Sweden and Norway are on the cards next year.

Work wise, this was a fully documented nuts and bolts restoration over several years, however I suspect the previous owner ran out of steam. Now, after 9 years and 1600kms ish since restoration completion there are a few jobs. First, into a garage to be fully inspected ready for the Syn. Power steering needs refitting, door hinges bushing and new pins making and the suspension setting up. It has adjustable Konis all round. The handbrake was not working, so that has been done and there are things I would like to change.

I am happy to do some of the work, maybe not setting up the carbs and registration and number plates are a priority, then it can be driven for summer. I have manuals, however 90% of my tools are metric, so time for some shopping. Also it is an auto, something I have not driven in 50 years so I need to learn that as well!

David, if you search on the forum you’ll find recent discussion about changing the door hinge pins.
There are options to change the automatic to manual and with the longer wheelbase even have overdrive. Again discussed in various sections.
Imperial size tools can be bought via various internet outlets or even find an excuse to come to Britain to get useful size tools. There are metric sizes that can be useful, eg 13mm and 8mm, but not accurate enough for really doing things up tight.
There will be forum members visiting Britain for days like Jaguar Spares Day, or the AutoJumble at Beaulieu I. September where lots of tools can be sourced. Why not ask if there’s anyone who can pick up sets for you to bring over to the EU?
