The 'E' Type Forum

Yet another new member here. I live in sunny Queensland and am toying with the idea of purchasing an E type for restoration from UK. Any advice would be very much appreciated. After looking through certain price guides it looks like the cheapest I can get a project E Type for would be between ?7,000 and ?15,000.

RHD project cars, particularly OTS , are becoming as rare as rocking horse droppings , and finding ones from a distance is even more difficult. An easier , and nearer, option for you would be to buy in the USA where the cars usually are considerably cheaper. The conversion from LHD to RHD is not a problem

Thanks for the reply Christopher, do you know of anywhere where I can find out more about the conversion as there is a left hand drive E Type here in Australia for sale.

The E Type Club Magazine has just done a full blow by blow account of how to convert from Left to RHD Drive. As they also do the magazine digital, you can get on line.

And you can buy a kit of parts from several Jag suppliers over here, Ian.

I converted a S1 Coupe and a S3 OTS, and they are pretty straightforward to do. The S3 is a bit tight for space due to having an aircraft engine under the bonnet, but it can be done!

Incidentally, it's just a nut and bolt job as well. All E types have two sets of holes for the steering coloumn, pedel box...a lhd set and a rhd set. If you have a rhd car, the lhd holes are just covered up with small bolt-on panels. opposite for a lhd car. So a rhd bodyshell is identical to a lhd bodyshell (for the same model of course!)
