I've just joined and would like to say hello. I'm the very proud owner of a 1962 Series 1 Red OTS. I have a couple of questions for the forum:-

My car's serial number is 850389 first registered in Feb 1962. Having seen other Series 1 roadsters, in particular the footwells I strongly suspect that mine was originally a flat floor car. The recess is not full width and looks to have been welded in, possibly after one of it's rebuilds. The bonnet has the standard internal release handles but may not be the original. I would have attached some photos but have still to figure out how to do this.
Secondly can you tell me if the doors should have drain holes in them. Mine appears to be missing them.

I am still getting to know the car having only owned it for 6 months. The one thing that is obvious is that no two are the same.

Anyway hopefully somebody can provide the answers.

Alan,

The changeover from external to internal bonnet locks was in August '61 at chassis 850092, and the change from flat floor to footwells was in Jan '62 at chassis 850358.

I'm not certain, but I think the door drains have always been fitted. They (2 per door) are covered by a sheet steel bracket which stops the rubber door seal covering them over.

Thanks for the response. I take it the early non-flat floor cars did not have a full recess in each footwell. My car only has a recess wide enough to get both feet in with two to three inches in between. I've had a good look at a series 1.5 and it's footwells are full width. Sorry I'm being a bit thick here but I'm still puzzling over how to upload some photos. I see there's a button in the row above the text box for images but when I click on it all that happens is the text "img" appears. I've tried all the normal ways to import an image without success.

'Flat floor' cars had just that - no recess for your feet. The rear bulkhead behind the seats was also flat and not scalloped to allow more seat movement. The floor recess is as you describe.

On the 2+2 the whole floor is lowered so it would appear to have a full width footwell. Is that what you saw ? Your footwells sound very much like the standard design used on the 2 seater cars after Jan '62. The footwells are prone to rusting away so they could well have been replaced on your car at some point.

The normal footwell is fairly easily recognisable as the pressing has a top flange round its entire periphery so that this flange rests on the floor, and is then spotwelded to the floor all round the perimeter

Thanks for the replies. My footwells are as you describe Christopher. I seem to have got my hands on one of the early non flat floor cars.
I have found that the screen pillars are missing the top hole for securing the hockey-stick shaped pads into. The transmission tunnel has only one fixing bolt on the passenger side at the rear. The front bolt hole and threaded hole in the body are missing. The radio console has only two fixing bolts-at the top rear on each side.
Has anyone else experienced this lack of fixing points?
