I was in the exact same position as you. I loved the fixed-head - later (much later!) research convinced me to look at the 4.2 series 1, and I found a brilliant one about 7 years ago. Never regretted it. Good luck with your search.

I have always loved the series 1 FHC. I've owned my one for nearly 30 years....

Looked at a few V12s but the engine seems overcomplicated and they were scruffy in my price range and would need structural work sooner rather than later.
I have decided the 6 Cylnder S2 is more sensible for me, an ex engineering apprentice, as i can work on it myself and also get a few more mpg. I have also decided to up my budget and get a restored car. Watch this space....

I can understand Your first impressioins on lifting the V12 bonnet.

But when You actually familiarise yourself with the under bonnet
layout they are quiet straight forward.

Which ever you choose it will put a smile on your face a mile wide
