New member looking for my old e type!

Hello,

I owned a white E Type 3.8 Drophead in 1962 (or round about then!) with number plate 190 CRX which I bought to celebrate being number one in the charts with Johnny Remember Me! (If you dont remember that you may remember me in The Great Escape!)

This was a very special car for me - my favourite car ever - and I would love to know if it is still up and running!

Do any of you have any ideas how I would go about finding it?

Welcome to the Forum and glad to have you join us. I have checked both the DVLA and Insurance database and neither show the car, at least with that registration number, as being extant. Next port of call would be to look at XKEdata.com which holds as much information as possible on every E-Type but it does help if you have a chassis number. I will have a trawl through their database tomorrow and see if I can turn up anything and I will check some other documentation I have and report back.

Out of interest do you have any photos of you and the car you can share? We have a lot of celebrity photos in the 'Collectors Corner' part of the Forum and we are always looking to add more period ones. Dave Clark's E-Type is still going strong by the way.

Your single reached number one in the charts on 29-08-1961 so presumably you bought the E-Type shortly after.

Getting hold of an E-Type at that time would have been very difficult as the production was only getting started. There is a well documented story of Adam Faith begging Sir William Lyons to sell him one! In any event your car would have been an early one and although we cannot discount the possibility it was crashed and scrapped in the intervening years there are two other explanations as to why the registration number does not show up - it was re-registered for vanity or it was exported (e.g. http://www.xkedata.com/cars/detail/?car=850232). Do you remember the colour of the interior or any other information that might help us identify the car? 'RX' means it was first registered in Reading by the way.

The other option is to contact Tom (known here as omnipeta) who works for Classic Car Heritage as they have copies of all the original factory records and he may be willing to do some research in his spare time into finding your car's records.

Thanks for the info regarding finding the car. I will look into it. Yes the car was used in Everyday's A Holiday which was made in early '64. I must have sold it soon after this as I went to Hollywood to do a film called Von Ryan's Express. I bought the car from Vandervell's in Belzise Park but yes the car originally came from reading. Here is a picture of me and the car...

Great photo John _ will add it to our Celebrity Photos section of 'Collectors Corner'! I have already asked Tom if he will have a look at the heritage records on your behalf but it is a onerous task without a vehicle identity number. Do you remember what colour the interior was as that alone will halve the number of cars that need to be researched? Probably either Black or Red.
