#1 Hello from a new Texas e type owner!

Howdy E Type Lovers!

I just returned from Seattle last week where I went to purchase a Ferrari and ended up falling head over heels with a beautiful 1968 E type Jag U R...

Signal red, rebuilt engine, rebuilt transmission, retrofitted brakes and cooling fans with a new larger aluminum radiator. The previous owner also welded in new floor pans (presumably because the old ones were rusted out) and Ziebert coated the entire undercarriage after "de rusting" it.

I am ecstatic and await its arrival on the delivery truck next week. I have owned several Ferraris, Lamborghinis, etc. but none has ever elicited this elation that purchasing this English lass has. My wife took a picture of me sitting in it in the dealership and the look on my face is pretty telling :P

I have a couple of questions for the forum:

1. I am planning on driving my lass at least twice per week (weather permitting - she will never see rain again) Will the highest octane (95) fuel be high enough for her?

2. I am considering putting on the Stefan Wahl light conversion kit on her, what are your thoughts?

BTW she is a 1968 1.5 OTS number 1E16067

Thanks everyone!

Mark : 95 octane will be perfectly satisfactory if the distributor is in good condition i.e. the mechanical advance springs are not weak. If you get pinking , you will need to retard the static setting a little .

The Wahl kits are a question of personal taste . I think they look good, although they are very expensive . But there is a lot to be said for keeping the car original as far as possible

PS Just looked at it on xkedata. A very nice looking car with only two externally visible departures from specification : the ram's horn exhaust pipes are S2 and not S 1.5 , and the seat covers are most definitely not Jaguar ones. Incidentally, a lot of people are now fitting MX5 seats which are an easy change and for many people improve comfort considerably at quite modest cost . One underbonnet change which is definitely to be recommended is to get rid of the crossover mixture duct between inlet manifold and exhaust manifold - this improves performance of the Strombergs considerably by all accounts , and all it requires is the making of blanking plates

I do hope you will enjoy it greatly

Enzo would approve

your car is listed in the 2006 and 2011 directory of international E type owners register, although no details are given, other than that the colour is red.

I hope you enjoy your purchase, and keep us informed with pics etc.
