Happy New Year to all!

I'm Martin from the Philippines. Christmas came early to me last November when I brought home an E type, FHC. It was a barn find quite a few missing parts. I purchased it with two 4.2 liter engines and one moss box. The car was an abandoned project, last touched more than 15 years ago. I will check the numbers and post photos in the future. Off hand it looks like an early series 1 due to the short signal light lever.

I have been vintage racing in the Philippines for over 10 years and plan to make the E type a race car. ( )

Hopefully I can learn and in the future contribute to the knowledge base.

the chassis number makes the car a late Series 1 FHC (1964).

I thought I'd start a blog over the recent holiday period, but I lay down until the feeling passed!

If its a 1964 car - it may actually be a 3.8 or a very early 4.2 (not a late one)

My 4.2FHC is chassis 37 made in October 1964 and there are differences between the early 4.2's and those made just a few months later.

If you can share the chassis number - we will tell you what you have :)

Mine is number 78, manufactured on the 16th of November 1964 according to its Heritage Certificate. It still has a few items from the 3.8 parts bins, such as the tailgate prop and a glass screen wash bottle. The interior trim seems to have been given the 3.8 treatment but with the revised seats.

Yuh - I get the impression that somewhere around July 1965 Jaguar had used up all the 3.8 bits but there may well be cars out there that prove otherwise...

Besides it makes our cars "special" Jimmy 8)

But the chassis number will tell us if this one is a 4.2 and we can share the 'differences'

It is 890317 - Dr. Haddock's book on E Type restoration says it was made around April of 1964. It specifically mentions 890317/8.

Here is my first question Chris. What is the /8 at the end of the chassis number?

Great photos of the work on your e type.

Judging from its number, it was built in March 1964 , just a few weeks earlier than Haddock suggests, although it will probably have been delivered in April 1964 . It is certainly a 3.8 litre car . Your query about an 8 suffix on a number would more usually refer to the engine number. These all have a suffix, usually of 8 or 9 ( and very rarely of 7) which denotes the compression ratio

Thanks for the comment re the photos. If your car isn't listed on the XKE Data website, there is no time like the present to upload its details there yourself! I thought Chris' car was there at one time but I can't find 1E20037 listed, 1E20035 is though and I'm sure that's the one!
