#1 Proud new owner in the Cotswolds

Post by Simon Bolton » Thu Dec 11, 2008 3:50 pm

Hi All
I must be getting old as I've only just seen this section on the forum and have already posted questions without this introduction bit . I reckon it will be a bit cathartic for all my misgivings.
Name is Simon living in the Cotswolds near Chipping Campden(looking out for a soul mate to wrack brains with).Had a TR6-finished resto and sold it well.
Bought my Series 1 2+2 Primrose on E-bay earlier this year for a low bid but with no inspection-there was no time!.Mad I know but got away with it(I think)
2 previous restos done but had been left to fester since mid 90's so things to address.
Good interior and body with new bonnet although the recent respray was not bare metal so am wary of usual problem areas.I've replaced rear springs and dampers so it now 'sits'perfectly, new ss exhaust and sorted out cooling.Must fit new hi-torque starter motor pdq.
Things I need advice over are is really the engine and gearbox.Good indicated oil pressure and runs really well but just does'nt sound quite right.I'm sure tappets need adjusting but they scare me-the idler gear is noisy but probably best left. What I really need is for someone with XK Knowledge to drive, listen and report.Any advice on where to go or who to see.
Thanks by the way to replies from various members so far.Your knowledge is invaluable to all of us new owners. Looking forward to time spent on this forum Simon
PS how do you post photos etc?

I can't afford a holiday, I am only a humble car dealer.

I tried to have ago the other day but with not much success, I'll try and have another go later.

I might have to make Clive IT Director???? as long as he does'nt make pub chat a sticky.

Hello Simon,

welcome !
if you post photos there is also a "owners gallery" section.
Makes me think I need to put a post about my car there also...

Clive

It sounds like your spending your E-type fund.
