I thought it was about time I joined up to the forum. I bought my S3 2+2 32 years ago when nobody really wanted them! I have used it ever since but after the first year or two of driving on/off building sites I decided to look after it in the correct manner. I did a full respray and left the church in it when married and avoided the weather ever since, dry garaged and used only summer/dry days and with kids harnesses in the back for days out etc. It is totally original and engine has never been out of the car once, never missed a beat and been maintained myself throughout, so I know it very well, every squeak.
But, without a single spot of paint on it in 30 years, the time has come to give the old girl a new coat and interior refurb so this will keep me busy this winter and I'm sure I will need some help and guidance from the experts out there,....as I'm gonna try and make it as close to A1 as I can afford. Cheers Ian

Welcome to the forum, i imagine you are already pretty familiar with Etypes and can probably help answer questions.
I hope you dont find all sorts of horror underneath the paint like I did :D
I took 10 years to do my rebuild after making a similar decision as yourself

Hi Ian,
Nice to have another Cheshire man in the forum. I am actually from the Wirral. Good luck with the upgrade.

Hi Tony, I think I may have seen your car around at shows etc a few times, are you in the JEC? Mine is now in many bits having dismantled the front end and I'm gradually working my way through restoring each component and have boxes and boxes full of parts ready to go back on once I've finished the bodywork.

Hi Chris
So far so good in terms of the body, the car has always been garaged and never driven in the wet consciously and always carefully dried out on the rare occasions it got wet. The bonnet is done primed and top coat on underneath so it can be trial refitted this week.
The car has no obvious rust on it but I know the rear wheel arches will need some work, they always do, as will the boot floor I expect. The cills are solid but I'm going to fit new door skins as the ones dont have even gaps and I put them on 29 years ago when I was learning.
It really wont take me 10 years, although I once said that about another car I have (a Lanchester) and I only finished that this year after 31 years!
cheers Ian

Hi,
Yes I am in the JEC and have attended a few show. I presume we must have spoken, but I cannot put a face to the name at the moment.
