Value & Sell an e-type

Hello All, I have been recommended to visit here so hope you're well.

My father has a white 2+2 coupe 1971 to sell. It has been in the garage for 20 odd years and has been recently serviced and MOTd. Mileage is 77,990.

The car is in reasonable condition but needs some 'TLC.'

I was really hoping for advice on the best way to sell and even a rough guide on value if possible please?

Matthew : is it a 4.2 or a V12 ? and is it Manual or Automatic ? Both are crucial factors in valuation . Also, being a bit more specific about condition of each principal part of the car will help e.g. paint, metalwork, interior, brakes and steering, engine and gearbox . As far as selling is concerned , probably the best way to test the market is to put it in the Jaguar Enthusiasts' Club magazine and on their website . Avoid Auctions ( last resort and then only with certain houses i.e. there are a number of auctions to be avoided at all costs - PM me for details ) and , for the moment at least, avoid e bay . If you get no real interest from the JEC mag, then there are one or two dealers who would sell it for you

As Christopher has mentioned, there are quite a few parameters to consider when valuing a car, but to give you some sort of range, a rusty non-running project S3 2+2 car would be around ?6000, and an excellent car with no faults somewhere around ?30,000. A perfect / showroom car would be somewhat more; anything up to ?50,000.

Your car doesn't sound like a project, or a perfect showroom specimen, so to narrow it down a little, I would guess the range to be something between ?12,000 and ?20,000, depending on what sort of work is needed.

If there is any rust showing up, then that tends towards the lower end. Similarly, if there are any oil leaks towards the back of the engine, it can be an expensive fix, and the value heads towards the lower figure.

If the paint and interior are just a little tired, but otherwise the car runs well with no major faults, then head up to the upper figure.

If you can describe the car and faults in more detail, and perhaps put a couple of photos up, then a more accurate 'asking' figure can be derived.

Many thanks Mark for your detailed response.

There isn't any obvious rust and the engine has in fact been recently serviced and there are no leaks anywhere.

I would say areas of attention would be new chrome bits, leather interior retrimming etc. Just some love and attention I guess.

I would have posted some pics but not sure if possible from an iPhone?

I'll look at the site suggested below and go from there.
