Restoring a s2 import

Decided to sign up to the forum as I will be restoring a series 2 left hand drive 4.2 freshly imported from the states . The bloke I'm repairing it for was told you get better body condition from imports. This has turned out to be quite untrue!

Maybe yes, maybe no. Some of the worst rust buckets are found on this side of the Pond and some of the most pristine examples live here, too. It all depends on where in the U.S. the car has spent its life and how it was cared for while here. Just because it's a "California" car doesn't mean that it doesn't have rust issues. Some parts of the state get considerable rain (San Francisco, mountain areas of the north) and even coastal SoCal gets salt air. With any car purchase, not just E Types, it is wise to get a close inspection by a qualified person who knows the pitfalls of the car that you are considering. I hope that your rust issues are not in the critical, expensive places such as sills and frame rails. Good luck and a hearty welcome to the Forum.

Yes as Mark said. I purchased my E from a chap that imported it from California and it needed two front floors, a boot floor and two outer sills so obviously mine had seen some inclement weather.

None of the cars I have imported needed that much work. We might have to replace the odd footwell due to ham fisted mechanic jacking it up there but nothing else. Pays to have a good man on the ground who knows what they are doing!
