#1 New owner, S2 FHC in Light Blue

Reading several posts many owners seem reluctant to take their lovely cars out in the rain.
Well we had little choice as it decided to throw it down on our way home from collecting the car. At least it proved that the windscreen wipers do a decent job.
Not all bad weather, though, and we had a super run through some stunning countryside.
An advert on Autotrader saw me going from a wishful thinker to a new owner of a light blue S2 FHC that was in Edinburgh. A test drive and inspection went pretty well and had used various gleanings of posts on this website and others, plus useful books to help me assess and decide to buy.
A wet Saturday in Edinburgh seeing the castle, fringe etc. then off to collect the car last Sunday. A bright start, all paperwork in order and agreed and we set off. Ann, my wife as happy passenger and navigator, and me as even happier driver. Off down the A7 through the beautiful countryside on the way down to Carlisle, then onto the M6 to Chester. That's when the rain came and was unpleasantly heavy for a while, but the car, wipers and all coped well.
Our friends in Chester were expecting us to overnight with them, but didn't expect the car. First, fun type of comments 'buying second hand cars now?' soon changed to admiration, and they could see by the continuing smiles on our faces that we were happy people.
Monday saw the first of our 'vintage motoring' experiences. The water temperature started to climb higher than we had seen even in stationary traffic the day before. A call through to the JEC helpline and Ken Jenkins put me in touch with a good engineer near Coventry. The Otter switch was the culprit (what an appropriate name for the temperature controller) and Chris Forbes was able to by-pass the switch to leave the fans on all the time. With no tools or overalls in the car I couldn't even contemplate trying to sort out the problem myself. Well thank you both Ken and Chris, Chris even phoned me later in the day to see if all was well. He also gave us very clear instructions to find our way from his countryside location that saw us passing Brown's Lane for our onward journey home. Top man.
The rest of the journey went well, though too much was on motorways just trying to get home. But that didn't detract from the joy of motoring in an E Type. What a beautiful car and such a pleasure to drive, not least due to the admiring looks from people in the streets.
A few things I'd like to sort out and what would be ideal is to find a friendly person to give the car a once over to assess if there is anything that ought to be done to keep her in top form. I don't think there is anything major, but a knowledgeable and helpful engineer who can keep an eye on me and the car would be a good next step.
Having enjoyed and appreciated all the posts and advice on the forum I have now felt to be justified in contributing. Interestingly, the car has the Elan rear lights, straight exhaust and a steering wheel not dissimilar to one restored by Moss Jaguar featured in a recent write up on the forum. Wonder when both were so modified?
Greetings from a happy new E Type driver, and one thing both Ann and I agreed on, the seats are more comfortable than in our new XF 3.0D Portfolio. Why do they make car seats so firm, we don't all go racing in them!
