#1 Finally got my e-type 😀

Post by Tjclare » Fri Feb 13, 2015 1:03 pm

After years of dreaming months of looking, I have now purchased my Jaguar 4.2 series 2 LHD convertible one owner car with 51k miles all the way from the USA 😀😀😀
The car is running and sounds very healthy, body needs a bit of attention but I have seen a lot worse! It's never been restored and pretty sure it's original paint.
A few questions for you experience people out there,
The car is a horrible beige colour would you say a total respray with a different colour would affect future value?
The car has the twin carbs is there a problem with keeping these? as I have heard some thing to do with EU legislation?
I intend to do a complete nut and bolt restore! What order of strip down do you advise? (I am a sheetmetal worker by trade and have always be tinkering with engine and machines)
Thanks for reading my 1st post 😃😃

Welcome to the Forum

'Hearing aid beige' is not the best of colours to modern eyes so anything you can do to change it will increase the value of the car rather than decrease it. You could opt to replace the twin Strombergs with triple SU's (Burlen sell a kit) or there is a fix detailed somewhere on the Forum about jamming the secondary butterflies open which improves power. No EU legislation worries. Swapping to RHD is also relatively easy - instructions are in the Forum 'Knowledge Base'. As for order of strip down - interior, exterior parts, engine/gearbox, IRS and then remaining ancillaries like wiring loom. Read through the 'Restoration' threads to get an idea or the Angus Moss adventures: http://mossjaguar.com/grey-s2-fhc.html which are almost step by step S2 restoration instructions.

Another tip is to buy Chris Rooke's excellent book. Written in straight forward language and with lovely pictures.

Another website I recommend for the total resto / nut & bolt brigade is http://www.mckennasgarage.com/

And of course read all the stuff that's on the forum. There is simply tons of stories and pictures and advice to be found. Learn to use the search button, more often than not the answer is already on the forum!
