Hi
Finally got a car! Thanks to fellow Dorset forumite Barry for selling it to me!
And thanks to Angus for loads of advice during my search. Let's hope it's a good summer ...

Stunning looking car. If you find your self over the boarder in Devon you would be welcome to call in.

just noticed your radiator header tank is on the offside behind the carbs - is that normal on a '70 series 2?
My '69 2+2 has it on nearside, and I thought they all did?

Mine's behind the carbs, too. Weren't the US models on the left? Can't say what happens on the 2+2.

I looked at lots of picture references on this when I was getting mine restored and eventually concluded there's no particular rhyme or reason to it - they seem to appear on either side in equal measure!

I think you're right. In my copy of Porter's Original E-Type it states that the expansion tank was "moved to the nearside bulkhead" and a photo on the opposite page clearly shows it mounted on the off-side!

According to Clausager in his 'Factory Original' book:
"All the Jaguar literature show the expansion tank on the left-hand side of the bulkhead by the heater on the Series 1 1/2 and S2 cars, yet the expansion tank is found on the right-hand side behind the carburettors on some right-hand drive cars, including the one photographed for this book."

We always move the expansio tank to the RHS in line with other RHD cars we have seen. I am forming the opinion that there is no reason to move it when converting to RHD. In fact, leaving it on the left makes more sense as you don't have to extend the wiring for the washers and the expansion pipe connection is more logical as the stub comes out on the left of the radiator.

Mine was an original RHD, but expansion tank still on left

Hi
I've just joined the club and live in Lyme Regis - so depending on where you are in Dorset may be local or not.....
We've enjoyed some great days this summer in our Series 3 Roadster, and hope that there will be a few more before the salt appears on the roads and she goes into hibernation for the winter!

I'm near Shaftesbury so about as far apart as you can get in Dorset!
Went to the Woodroffe, though, so know Lyme well from my yoof ...
