Hi all

I just thought I'd say hello and introduce myself as my 1967 Series 1 FHC is due to arrive on Monday and I can't wait. I've been looking for an E-type for a while and it was love at first sight when I saw the car.

I'd looked at other cars that needed work doing and decided to spend a bit more and get a car that someone had put the money and work into. The car isn't perfect (are they ever) but the current owner has spent a lot of money on new parts and I would class the car as a very good driver. It just needs that last 10-15% of effort putting in to make it a really nice car which I am looking forward to tackling over the coming year.

Anyway looking forward to enjoying the car over the summer months so it would be great to get to know a few owners in the Warickshire area

Not silver blue I am afraid but silver. I believe this wasn't a period colour until the later series 2 cars (please correct me) but I do think the colour looks great on a series 1.

Here are some colour pictures for you all. Let me know what you think. I've already got a list of jobs I want to tackle including having the manifolds ceramic coated and detailing the engine bay.

The car has had new interior with headlining, new wheels and tyres, new radiator, brakes recently done etc. As I said just needs those smaller jobs doing.

Opalescent Silver Grey was available from 1961 onwards. By the time of the S2 cars the name had changed to variously Silver, Silver Grey or Daimler Silver Grey.

Really nice looking car. I'm sure that you're grinning ear-to-ear every time you look at it or get behind the wheel (it's a common affliction). You may want to reconsider ceramic coating the exhaust manifolds. They are notorious for not holding the ceramic and end up looking kind of ratty soon after you've spent a bunch of money to have them done. Jet Hot, VHT manifold paint and barbecue paint are alternatives that others have tried that hold up well. The latter two are DIY and cost just pennies.
One addition that I would advise would be the installation of a heat shield for the alternator. Those diodes and wires are dangerously close to the manifolds and it's easy to cook the electricals.

Well spotted Mark! And I would suggest fitting the servo shield as well. Dave Kerr can supply a stainless steel version. SNGB can supply the original design with the correct brackets - you need to call and discuss with them. Difficult to find part as it was only fitted from about 1966 onwards although available as a retro fit item.

Original Thor mallet was hide/copper and still available from SNGB. Unfortunately these hammers will damage your spinners so a better option is the Thor lead mallet or generic equivalent.


Even better is one of the spinner removal tools which range in price from ?30 to ?300: viewtopic.php?t=657

Perfect, have emailed about one of Lionel's adapters. Do they work with a standard breaker bar and 33mm impact socket? That will be another tool for my list :)

Requires 1.5" aka 38mm socket.

Well the car arrived this morning and I still can't believe it's in my garage. I decided that the first thing to do was clean and detail the car as this is often a great way to familiarise yourself with a new car and a way to spot any potential issues that will need addressing.

Well after 8 hours cleaning the car has come up really well and there aren't any really nasty surprises that I didn't spot when viewing the car. Next job will be to detail the engine bay and buy a few new parts to get everything to as it should be.

The E Type Club seems to be the club that specialises in the E type only,has a very good monthly magazine and arranges events throughout the year. See the link above. Or the Jaguar Enthusiast Club which covers all the jaguar cars and again has a good magazine. They also organise events but these are for all types of Jaguars, not just the E Type. I am sure there are more but these are the clubs I use. The E Type Club have their annual E Type weekend coming up which is an excellent event to attend.
