Evening everyone.

I am the new owner of a Series 2, 2+2. LHD US car, manual.

I have had various Jags for the last few years, an XJS-C, an X300....an LPG car which I took from 40K to 325K miles, currently have an X350....plus a couple of other older cars.

Anyway, back to the E-Type. My ultimate dream car, I'm 50 this year, so early birthday/midlife crisis car. Only had it a week or so, bought in the UK from a local chap who has spent a small fortune on getting it to a reasonable running condition (7k of receipts for parts)....the body seems to be really solid, the paint is a bit tired...which actually I don't mind, certainly not afraid to use it !.

Immediate jobs that I have found....the intermittent ticking the last owner mentioned is a loose tappet guide...not what I really wanted to find, but seems to be in its very early stages, and only when hot so hopefully I can use the "Stakedown" holding kit. It has a bit of a lazy starter motor....seems a bugger to get to, but I'll probably fit a high torque one.

Anyway enough to be going on with.

Russell

Hi Russel....not necessarily a loose guide.....I had the same ticking sounded just like one tappet tapping, ended up just replacing the cam followers with long sleeve ones, there's a lot on here if you search tappets.......All the best Steve

Thanks Steve,

I'm certainly no expert, but I can see the marks where one guide has been rubbing on the camshaft....it's also nice and shiny, unlike the rest....I'm sure it's the first of a voyage of discovery though !
