my name is Manfred and I live in Bavaria in southern Germany. Since my latest restoration - a 1980 Porsche 911 - was finished, I was busy looking for a new project to work on in my spare time.
Two weeks ago I spotted an interesting E type which perfectly fit my search pattern. I was looking for a car that would have a solid rust free shell but otherwise could need much work. Working on a car is the fun part for me, and for driving, I have already a 1971 Mustang Mach I beside the 911.
Last weekend I pulled the trigger and bought a 1972 E type. Since the seller lives near Amsterdam in the Netherlands, it was a 1,000 mile round trip to pick her up. I rented a flat bed truck since it is much more convenient for a long haul compared to a trailer.
All went perfectly well until I exited the Autobahn 3 miles away from home. While slowing down on the off ramp, the left rear tire of the truck blew with a loud bang. I managed to get the truck to a stop without any damage. Can you imagine how relieved I was because only seconds before, I was driving 85 mph?
After finding out that the truck didn't have a spare tire on board (according to the rental company, it is due to weight reasons :-( I called the ADAC (German AAA). They sent the big brother of my truck which then gave me a lift home.
