Hi All, and thank you for the varied and informative posts I have viewed over the last few weeks.
My introduction to and love of Jaguars and dare I say Daimlers spans over 4 decades, with too many projects and probably not enough "Time" I have decided to focus on completion/ improvement of a few of the most important. One of thee projects being my 1969 fhc e type, which is next on the list (after I have rebuilt my 1934 Daimler LQ3-20, which has a deadline of June 2016!!!!)
The article discussing weber carbs showing photos of Dave Rose' beautiful car has drawn me into the joining the Forum and I hope I am able to learn ( and hopefully contribute) from the wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm on this site.

Mine's a 1969 build 1970 registration S2 FHC not a millions miles away.

Steve,Malcolm,Mark and Geoff, thank you for your welcoming comments, I tried to pin her onto the map but wasn't sure which category as I am told she is a 1.5 , so much conflicting information out there I really can't be sure, and to be honest I don't know if it really matters one way or the other, that said I clearly don't want to put the pin on the wrong group, so if she is a series 2 no problem but if a 1.5. I cannot find appropriate section to pin her, I also understand that Jaguar didn't recognise the 1.5 and sold them as open headlight series 1's ? any ideas would be great, also do I need a password to pin her onto the map. Thanks

Indeed, welcome to the forum. If she's a '69, she's a dues paying member of the Series 2 club which started in '68. "Series 1.5" was the unofficial transition with open headlights, rocker switches on the dash panel (like Series 2), but marker lights above the bumpers and the smaller opening in the nose (like the Series 1).

Den, do you have the information from the data plate? That will help define whether the car is an S1.5 or S2.
EG my car is 1R20419. I think the S2 started at 1R20001 or something similar.

Geoff the car serial no is 1R27358 body no is 4R22913 whichever is the most valid for identification, my uncertainty was based on her having 3 wipers?

Looks like yours will be a late 1969 LHD Series 2 Fixed Head Coupe.

Den, that number is for a left hooker S2 from late 1969. Three wipers were standard for the S1 and S2 except for the 2+2 version. On the LHD the wipers parked to the left and vice versa for a proper car.

People do convert them to RHD and there is help on that subject if you search the forum.

Best suggestion to learn more is a good look at the knowledge section and to buy, eg. this book:

For a LHD S2 the normal was two Stromberg carburettors for the North American market where most E Types went.

Agree; mine's a june '69 car and a series 2. (Although not registered until 1970, so on an "H" plate)

Thanks Simon, didn't see that one coming!! I thought she was always a RHD car, cannot see any clues that she was once a LHD although I have often wondered why she doesn't appear to have suffered the levels of corrosion you hear about with some British cars and felt she was just kept in the dry. I have owned her for 7 years and was informed that she had undergone a professional restoration in 1992. Would a heritage certificate help me track the history? i.e. to which country supplied. I am now very interested to understand which numbers give the clue and also why she has three wiper blades as I erroneously thought that all series2 and 3 had 2 wipers.

Thanks Geoff/Malcolm starting to get a bit clearer now, I have webers so no idea what original fit would have been, but wouldn't change them, I know it's a matter of taste, but when/if I get them jetted correctly I'm sure I will enjoy her all the same.

Original fit would have been the standard 3 SU's, or, if a USA car of that age, 2 strombergs (or "stranglebergs" as we call them!)
Most people with strombergs would like to convert to the triple SU's or, as an alternative, webers. Another hint that your car may have been USA.

Great responses guys and again many thanks, starting to get over that fact that she is probably an ex US car, I will now get a Heritage certificate and delve a bit more into her history, unfortunately the 1992 restoration file that I briefly viewed when I originally found her near Mull, (whilst on a walking holiday, as you do!!!) wasn't to be found a month later when I flew up to drive her back to Pompey, which was a fantastic first outing for both myself and the car. I've got a feeling that with all of the kind assistance given to me since I joined up that I shall accelerate the few improvements and bring her back into more regular use, sooner rather than later.
