#1 Newbie S1 FHC 4.2

Hello.
I took delivery of my S1 FHC 4.2 this morning. It was imported from the USA (Kansas) by the guy I bought it from. Looks to be pretty original, tatty in places but overall (hopefully) a useable drivers car.
It has been raining since it arrived and so I took a little time looking over the car. The fuel filler area was full of water! so I spent some time cleaning the drain out, then the rear hatch stay snapped, so I then made a temporary replacement.....looks like the fun is beginning straight away!
Anyway just thought I would say Hello as I think I might need some help in the future.....

Hello Steve, welcome to the forum. Lots of useful advice and help here.
Post photos of your car when you can and tell us more about it when you're ready.
Good luck looking after her and enjoy the pleasures of E Type driving. Do you plan to convert to RHD?

Can you offer any tips on unblocking the fuel filler drain Steve? A previous owner of my SIII thoughtfully daubed black gunk all over the paintwork under the car and during the process managed to conceal the exit hole of the drain. I've had a selection of wire and coat hangers poked down the hole, all to no avail.

Sorry for the late reply. I poked a bicycle spoke down the fuel drain hole to clear it.

Very good looking , and black is pretty unusual . Competition wires are not for me for some reason , but look almost new . Enjoy yourself

Excuse my ignorance, but what's then difference between competition wires and normal wires?

The competition wires have a wider wheel and ( I think ) a different offset so that they have a wider horizontal rim . The reason I don't like the look of them is that , although they have exactly the same number of spokes ( 72) , because of the offset, they look to have fewer . It's a complete optical illusion!
