Hi, all just got my 64 series one fhc yesterday.
Weather was good so took it for a 40 mile drive, half way through it rained heavily so it had its first test of the door seals and it passed.
Today , Sunday managed about 70 miles in lovely sunny weather.
What a joy.
Never had an e type before but love it, at 3500 revs it sounds like a spitfire but of course you all know that.
Got a small squeak from the front brakes and the ignition barrel is a bit loose but nothing to write home about.

That Moss box is not bad just takes a bit of getting used to but I'm familiar with such things, that's the joy of it.

Hi Keith,

You wrote "you all know that", but be sure that each time you'll drive your E Type, it will be the same thing.
The same pleasure and the same smile on your face when you hear the engine sound.
Without speaking about the fact that when you look at it you think: " whoua... it's a so beautiful car !"

My motivation to buy a second E Type was my two kids.
One for each !
They do what they want with them, only hope they'll have the same joy than their mother and me behind the wheel.

Nothing sounds quite like an XK engine and nothing looks like an e type! Amazed your door seals worked. My 62 FHC seals ERM...don't. Always worth having a nice absorbent rag just in case and do check those footwells after a wet run....just in case!!!

As someone else I know with one said....if you are ever feeling a bit low get the e out and go for a spin. You will return with a huge smile!!

Getting petrol is usually fun as even db9 owners will come over for a look...in fact stopping anywhere tends to attract admirers.

Have fun and use it as much as possible although best to steer clear of the winter salt!! Julian

I'll be getting out as much as I can before they start salting.
Don't mind the rain it's a good excuse to polish the e
Sooner or later though I'll get pee d of with cleaning
I'll just start the engine and listen to that

Got a bit of a smell of engine fumes inside, I know this is not normal but is it something common on ser 1 's. ?

Fuel smells inside are common I think on all 3.8's and 4.2's. Certainlky get it on mine. However, worth checking the banjo nuts on the carbs; famous for working a bit loose, then petrol seeps out around them.

Fuel smells inside the car can be from a number of sources. Check the fuel pickup cover plate on top of the fuel tank, as well as the gauge sender unit. It's also worth having a look at the vent pipe connections while you're back there. Any leakage from these places will really stink things up inside.
