The 'E' Type Forum

Hi everyone,

I am not yet an E type owner but, at the advanced age of having been eligible for a free bus pass for some years, I am at last now looking for one.

I joined the forum last September and I have been lurking and learning fast since then. It seems to be a great forum thanks to all the very helpful people who are and have been contributors and I have also devoured Peter Crispin's excellent guides on 1001 places to find rust in the bodywork/frames and I have spoken to Angus Moss who is a very helpfull chap.

If anyone with an E type in the N. Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Worcestershire area who would be willing to show me their car and talk E types to help my education I would be very grateful to meet up. (Appreciate that most cars will be tucked up for the winter at the moment)

I am not looking for a major project these days but if anyone knows of a good S2 2+2 Auto which might be for sale please let me know. Yes I am looking for an auto - I hardly dare say so!

Look forward to contributing to the forum - maybe even something useful - but please bear with me if I put my foot in it through ignorance.

It would be lovely if I could find a car in time to join so many of you who plan to be at Bicester this year, it should be a great event.

Hi Bob.. welcolm to the forum.....Im near Ludlow....PM me with your email/ contact number and would be happy to meet up with you.....couple of nice E types comming up for auction at Brightwells Leominster soon.....not exactly what your after but worth viewing just for the knowledge.......just come to Bicester in your daily driver and join in

Hello Bob. As Steve says. Come to Bicester anyway. There will be maybe forty E types there and a set of immensely knowledgeable people....and me! If you have your E then fab. If not there will be a lot of cars to see so you will have a better chance of picking a good one when you find one.

When you do get the right one it is a decision you won't ever regret. Manual or auto, S1,2 or 3, FHC or OTS they are all gorgeous!

Welcome Bob. I too was already a bus pass holder when I bought my E type a couple of years ago. I knew very little about them at that time but have learnt a huge amount from the forum and also from Angus who did a lot of work for me. Take his advice and you won't go wrong.

As others have said you will love every minute. I use mine summer and winter as often as the weather allows. Can't get enough of it !

Thanks all for the warm wellcome - glad I'm not the only bus pass holder here. Actually I've never used it, just got it for ID as I still have the old type non photo driving licence. Nearest bus route is a 2 mile walk away.

Steve - Thanks for the offer to meet up. It's a nice drive up to Leominster from here and then the A49 on by Ludlow, although I have never been into the town. I've often passed the Brightwells site but never been to one of their auctions although I did monitor their E type sales last autumn.

I'm near Newent about 8 miles from Gloucester, with a S3 OTS, so it has a similar driving position / roominess of a 2+2. You are very welcome to pop over at any time, just PM me.

Brian, I too live in Ludlow and have a Series 1 3.8 FHC as well as a buss pass- actually a Senior Railcard. Am hoping to get it fired up and run today as I've only done 50 miles on a new and proper E Type engine. The previous block was from a Mark 10. You've got 2 cars to see in Ludlow and then there's Ludlow itself

Still waiting for mine.
Rather hoping that by the time I am elligible, they haven't moved the date so far that I'll actually need it. I'd prefer to be driving an E until long after that.

The guys I feel sorry for are those who've lusted after a roadster so they can feel the wind in their hair, only to find the hair has gone before the roadster can be bought.

I prefer to think that it was driving my Austin Champs, Triumph Spitfire (supercharged & propane fuelled) and TR4, open topped in the 1960's & 70's that caused my hair to fall out - nothing to do with age.
