So I have shamefully been a long time reader of the forum, benefiting extensively from others knowledge - which for a younger owner is a godsend, without posting.
Here I am, 1968 S2 in Old English White, parked up next to Jaguars latest offering. She looks small in comparison... Know which one I prefer too! Tentative daily driver - the upside living in central London is having to get very good at parking in double time!

Welcome Marcus and well done coming out of the shadows
A better comparison would have been them parked side by side with a rear end view.
So which one do you prefer?

Hi Mark,
Officially welcome, so no more "flying under the radar" then !
How's yours going since you picked it up from Angus ? It looks great now the body work is finished.
Since we last spoke & you saw the bits

My engine has now been fully rebuilt and I am currently running it in.
Next stage is a full back to bare metal respray in OEW of course
Enjoy what's left of the summer in yours

Hi Mike, all good thanks - she's burning a bit of oil so looking like some winter works to rectify, otherwise she's been OK thus far! Love driving her and even in London its not half as bad as I feared. Bar the heat transfer into the cabin on hot days... Yes was pleased to see you're mobile again, does she drive that much better with the rebuild? The only problem with OEW is that you can see every spec of dirt & dust!
Ian - how about this:

Hi Steve
Oddly I was talking about that with Angus today! I should caveat that my carbs are probably running ever so slightly rich but I'd guestimate no more than 10mpg in normal traffic & 6-8 in heavy traffic. Combined with c120 pence per litre of premium unleaded its an expensive trip across town but well worth it - always get let out at junctions!

Welcome. A lovely car....much prettier than the F type methinks. Don't want to sound alarmist but do make sure she stays in your possession though. Think security both at home and out and about. A series 1 FHC vanished back in the spring from North london (post here somewhere) and I never heard it was found. It was parked in the street overnight....an extremely unwise thing to do. Big steering locks and a tracker should be fitted asap! Have fun...Julian

Hi Mark,
Engine rebuild is sweet and it's running really well, bit rich on the carbs (average 15 mpg at 3000 rpm or less whilst running in) but I will get it tuned after a couple of thousand miles.
I guess you will need to investigate why yours are burning oil and what's causing it, good luck & I hope that it is not expensive like mine was !

Steering locks are pretty useless with the flimsy E-Type steering wheel. Ultimate deterrent is removable steering wheel leaving wheels on full lock to curb. That followed by fuel pump isolator and/or ignition isolator. If you have outside parking these are superb as they can be installed in minutes and send a push notification/email or text to your phone on detecting movement:

Or you could secrete one of these beauties in the car for £15.
http://shop.tescomobile.com/pay-as-you- ... deal=22391
Register the number on a free mobile tracking service.
There you go. a Pay as you go £15 tracker.
They wont get far.
I have the 123-tune distributer, it is excellent. My car nver misses a beat, the spark output voltage is very high and it is fully tuneable.
The
new 123-tune+ distributor has a blue-tooth function.
This means the car will only work when in proximity to your bluetooth phone.
Excellent.

I have in mind a disclok. Available from e.g the RAC. Completely shrouds the wheel making it impossible to turn. And you cannot get to the wheel to saw it off either. The removable wheel is great but then, the spline could be turned with a large pair of mole grips....nothing is perfect. Also a disclok is much cheaper than a removable steering wheel. You probably need the medium size.

So what happens if you loose blue tooth whilst driving down the motorway

Seriously, I dunno (as my small sons say).
I would guess it would keep going until you tuned it off. Then you wouldn't be able to turn it back on again.
I also guess you could program it.
Apparently you can change the advance curve from your phone on the move.
Explain that one to your insurance company.
Anyone got one yet?

Thank you very much all, as always a serious trove of information and all duly noted.
Fear the bluetooth security may well be a bridge too far for me & I consider myself an early adopter of IT!
Will stick with the traditional methods & a doberman...

Security?. As my Dad use to say, locks are only for honest men. If they want it they will take it. It is a sad fact of life these days. I suppose a good tracker is the best option but the thieves are well aware of these and will adjust their plans accordingly.
I suppose we can only take the best precautions and hope it does not happen to us. Unless you know better?

Hi and welcome from a '69 2+2.
You say you're burning oil, but it's not unusual for E's to use some oil. Different if it's smoking of course. How much oil do you use?
Think your carbs need tweaking unless you're in extraordinary traffic jams all the time. I'm in the sticks now, but when I was in Chelmsford and A12/M25'ing I'd still get 20 mpg in poor conditions. 22 to 24 on a run.

Hi
Welcome along. I'm also in London (this week) but not with the E. I get similar figures, around 24 mpg if I am doing general motorway cruising and A roads. Down to about 20 mpg if it is more town driving. Rarely use any oil at all and maybe .5 litre every 8,000 miles.
Quite suprised at that.
