#1 From Series 3 to Series 1

Hello everyone

After a gap of 5 years, I've finally returned to the world of E Types.

Back in 2010 I purchased an Azure Series 3 FHC, CRW15K, which I loved but let go all too quickly and have now, via assorted Astons and an XK120 OTS, purchased a 3.8 Coupe, chassis number 861674 and registered ACM288B.

The car is RHD matching numbers and was originally a company car for one of the Directors of Veco Products in Birkenhead, who I am given to understand manufactured Peco Exhausts back in the day.

If anyone knows this car, or its' history, I would be delighted to hear from them.

Plans include sourcing some competition wires, along with a slightly frutier exhaust at some time in the future, though the immediate priority is to ensure it runs as good as it looks.

The car is due to arrive in the coming weeks, following pre-sale preparation and I am so very much looking forward to finally owning the car that I'd always dreamed of owning as a snot nosed schoolboy back in the 1970's.

While I wait in delicious anticipation for the car to arrive, I've been doing a little research into it's past history.

Armed with the knowledge that the car was originally first registered to Veco Limited, which was related to the Peco Silencers company, I googled 'Peco Exhaust history' and was delighted to see a scanned image of an ad from Hot Car Magazine dating from June 1968 which clearly showed my car, fitted with a lovely dual silencer, with the registration number ACM288B in partial view. One can only imagine how fruity it sounded back in the day!

Sadly, my lack of technical know how prevents me from sharing a scan of it here, but if you search 'Peco exhaust historyCM288' into a well known search engine, you'll see the ad in all its glory...

More to follow soon.

I know of the car as it was sold by Camberley Marine and it caught my attention as one of my best pals Uncle owned Peco and the E type. I contacted my pal to tell him and see whether they would be interested in buying it back , but cannot recall the exact reply. I can try to put you in touch with the family, I am not sure whether the original owner is still alive ( maybe) . So to be clear, its my pals Mums brother who bought it new . Send me a pm and I will try to see whether there is an appetite to talk. They are all big car people so I think there will be.

Not sure to be honest Christopher. I was at school with my chum, Steve, and as all 13 years olds are car mad I always remember him telling me that his uncle owned Peco exhausts . Don't recall the name, and as his mum was married to his father the surname was not Farthing. Its easy for me to find out. When I mentioned the car to them, his Mum said something about she was surprised it was still going as he was always crashing it! Hopefully not too seriously.

I have heard back and my pals uncle was Vernons business partner , Stephen Smith. Apparently SS was an E type fanatic and had several of them ( sounds familiar) . I am attempting to put the new owner in touch.

Why don't I have this sort of luck when it comes to original owners information? If anyone knows Frank A Woods who owned a company called Pictorial Publicity , publishers of Cooper, The Golden Years, he was the first owner of my car 3672PE . Gee whizz I would like some period photos of her, there must be some somewhere. Anyway, don't want to steal your post! e mail on the way.
