#1 Cheeky day off Wednesday.

Post by abowie » Wed Apr 23, 2025 8:44 am

Work this week is pretty thin, as we have Easter Monday backed up with ANZAC Day on Friday.

Today I took the supercharged MGB for her maiden test drive with me. There's still a number of electrical gremlins (no overdrive, no reversing light, no brake lights), but I needed to clear the hoist so I took her for an extended "trip round the block, honestly officer".

I still haven't got enough throttle return spring going, but WOAH!. I didn't go past 4000 rpm and didn't really plant the wellie but she goes like a scalded cat being encouraged to go faster by a cattle prod.

Having freed up the hoist, my beloved 4.2 coupe got some very necessary TLC.

She's been running rougher than a family sized bag of giant lizard dicks.

Up on the hoist. First thing I noticed was the brake fluid dribbling out of the clutch slave.

A couple of hours of profanity later and the new (in stock) Jaguar cylinder was installed. Damn that's an annoying job.

Oil drained, new plugs. Dizzy out and on the bench.

Points look OK but very small gap. Regapped. Dizzy reinstalled and timed.

Car now runs like scalded cat 2.0. Happy days.
Andrew.

Two scalded cats, what fun and a pleasant read up of how to spend a day.
Profanity? I get told off for that but my excuse it’s better than beating seven shades of …. out of a piece of equipment!

Keep on enjoying your cars, well after you’ve fixed the brake lights.

I love some of the Aussie sayings. I have a good friend who lives in Perth. Some of his expressions I most liked were:
1) When I missed an easy Clay when Clay Pigeon shooting, he said "Christ, you couldn't hit a bull in the arse with a handful of rice"
2) When I missed an easy catch at cricket, he said "You're about as much use as a one legged Arab in an arse kicking contest"

I'll probably be arrested by the race police now.

How about: "That's about as useful as a screen door on a submarine"?

I love these. One that was a bit saucy concerning women of loose virtues was "She bangs like a dunny door in a force 10 gale"
