#1 problem logging in

Post by Roman K » Fri Apr 13, 2012 9:03 pm

Hi all, I have a problem logging in.
I have to log in twice before I get the option "View posts since last visit"

problem is not much happens during that half a second sins my first attempt witch means the result is always nothing :(

Is this a common issue?

Not that I know of. Please try clearing your browser cache and see if it still happens. I am using Google Chrome and have never had a problem. Please keep me advised if you still have an issue.

Happens to me as well, I found that the first time I log in on a particular day if I delete the auto-filled password and type it again that usually works, seems to be OK after that (at least for the rest of the day).

Can you try clicking on the 'Log me on automatically each visit:' check box and see if it still happens. I have seen this happen to me in the past but never been able figure out what is going on. Clearing your browser cache usually sorts it out and since I have the auto login checked it has never happened again.

noop, didn't help.
I have tested with ie and safari. Same phenomena.

Strangely every now and then it works but only once.

Happens to me also

I log in automatically and go to "posts since last visit" but I can only choose 1 subject to view taking me to the last post in that subject that I haven't already read. After that any other subject comes up as "Non since last visit?

Had the problem for ages and I have cleared Caches and have chrome.

One of those things I've learnt to live with.....bit like having a car which won't tick over.

Just tested it from my end and I can see the two posts since my last visit and view them but I rarely use that feature - I just look for the orange blobs to show me which threads have new material. I will do some more testing now I know what you are trying to do.

Yes that's what I do....click the orange blob which is exactly what I've done here which has taken me to the new material (your post)

Now if I click back to "New Posts" and click the orange blob on any other post it say "There are no new posts since your last vist"

Hope that makes sense

What if you don't use the 'back' button but just click on'The E-Type Forum - celebrating 50 years etc' and then go to view new posts?

At the moment it seems this is a bug of some sort and there does not appear to be a fix I can find. Suggest you avoid the 'posts since last visit' bit and just view the Forum using the main screen and orange bubbles. Seems to be an issue with the code on 'view posts since last visit' so if it does not work for you, do not use it until I find a solution.

I have just started using the 'view posts since last visit' function (normally I just scan down the main page and open new posts from within each section. I can't get it to fail - works every time for me!

I will keep experimenting with it using IE and Firefox as well as Chrome and see what happens. If I can't replicate it I can't look for a fix!

No but you can subscribe to a particular thread and you will be emailed to tell you. Its at the bottom left of the page in the thread you are interested in 'Watch this topic for replies'. Can each of you let me know what browser you are using when this occurs please. This is what I see:

Unread threads from the main screen:
Image

View posts since last visit:
Image

So after I have read the first one (Pub Chat) the rest of the unread ones are still highlighted. Now if I were to not read those orange blobbed posts and navigated away from the Forum, even if I returned a few seconds later, the blobs would be gone. This is because "since my last visit" there would probably have been no new posts. So you can't read one or two and come back later to read the rest and expect them to be highlighted. Only way is to open a new tab in your browser for net navigation and leave the Forum tab open.

I use chrome

If I read an unread post then go "back" to look at the other unread posts I can't see the unread posts....just says "nothing in my search criteria"

Furthermore to add to my frustration today I had to log in whereas normally its automatic. Then when I logged in and clicked unread posts it tells me there aren't any when if I do a manual search there clearly is.
