Is the file size of 14kb on avatars a new restriction?

My previous 200 X 200 pixel & about 60kb avatar was showing nicely and then dissapeared along with most other members. I have got the new one down to under 14kb but it wasn't easy and it doesn't look very sharp. I would have thought 25-30kb would be more realistic as a max size, although, of course, I realise storage costs money.

The original members avatars were lost a couple of weeks back but I managed to resurrect them today from an old backup. Unfortunately your new avatar was not there so was lost - needs of the many and all that. I was going to PM you this evening to explain. The avatar size limit is 200x200 pixels and 14kb which is what it has always been but that got corrupted to 1400kb. Had to put it back or Harry would have no room to display his showroom pictures - he hosts the Forum on his server.

I think you avatar looks very sharp, besides a larger file limit would mean the picture could be larger than the post text
