Hey guys,
My son, 19, is approaching London, coming from Bristol. He wants to stay a few days in London, but our Merc is too old to get into the congestion zone. I tried years ago and it was hell‘ o‘ expensive.
So, the plan is to find a place for them to stay for maybe two days, then leave the car there and go to London. Then stay some 3 days or so in London, then come back and fetch the car and go ’round and further towards Dover.
Any suggestions? Anyone to be able to host a Merc for a few days ? Does NOT oil, does not loose parts…
Thanks !
Carsten

Carsten, there are lots of commuter towns with fast trains into London. From the west Reading, Basingstoke spring to mind and will have inexpensive Travel Lodge, Premier Inn etc. and similar hotels. Maybe search for a few hotels with parking like these often have. Find the cheapest with decent connections into London.
That’s a first thought that might help.
Good luck and when are you going to post a blog of your positive recent experiences in Scotland, but no photos of you in a kilt!

My mum still lives in central London...i live west midlands.....i did look into doing the "right" thing when i visit and parking out west and train in......it just isnt worth it. ....by the time you pay for parking and train journeys and the inconvenience for me it was easier to drive in and pay the charges.......where is your son looking to stay in London....does it have parking........he could look at staying in Docklands area.(south east)...hotels have parking and easy to get into central london..Steve

There’s safe space for a car here in Farnborough with nearby rail link and the usual cheap hotels.

I've got a big drive here in Fleet with fast trains to London if he wants to go that route.

Beware there are train strikes on Saturday 13th, you will have to take that into account for where they leave the car and how/when they get into London

Morning guys,
Yesterday evening he said he‘d put the car on one of the places I searched for him, pay it via an app ?, go into London and stay there for 5 days. I also asked the Imp community, they had some ideas like paid public parking places- I think this is where he got the idea from - hope it all goes well.

Morning,
Next problem ? There‘s a nationwide strike of railway workers ? Will they work on friday / 19.8. so that Felix could get back to Angus‘ place were the Merc is now ?
Felix said he checked the route on his phone and walking is 12:30 hours, plus they‘re possibly slower with the luggage to pull behind :-)
