Watching local news there was a look back at motoring including a short bit of film when the 70 MPH speed limits came in.
Quote from one lady “It’s quite ridiculous that you are expected to dawdle along at 70 mph!”
Then two ladies are seen in an OTS “I thinks it’s stupid, very stupid” says the driver. When asked “what’s stupid about driving at a safe speed?” earns the response “well it depends on who’s driving the car whether the speed’s safe or not” with a disdainful look on her face.

I don't know whether anyone is aware, hey are now proposing to drop motorway speed limits to 64mph.

The quality of this scare story can be judged by its source. GBN is definitely not a source of credible stories.

I wasn't convinced - and why 64? Or did I miss the explanation for that? (Didn't listen to it all!) 64 doesn't convert to a round KPH number.

Well I certainly hope this will turn out to be “fake news”. Apparently the explanation was to do with fuel savings????

Not sure what or who GBN is, but this appears to be part of 10 options/ideas put forward by the Environmental Audit Committee to MPs for consideration in reducing reliance on oil. Another option being banning use of cars in cities on Sunday. Doesn’t seem like fake news 🫤
P.s. 64mph comes about from the European origin of the idea which used a 10% cut in a 100kph limit as the example (6.2mph).

GB News was set up by Andrew Neil and others to be a free to air news channel. Neil lasted just nine shows before throwing his toys out of his pram. Regular contributors are Nigel Farage, and Neil Oliver. I will refrain from making any further comments………

Seems an odd number to land on there. There was some small town I visited once upon a time that had a really bizarre 17 mph sign that I couldn't wrap my head around. Was a steep hill as I recall but still didn't make much sense.
