For the last few years we’ve enjoyed going to the Silverstone Classic, though it hissed down last year which wasn’t ideal. Now looking at the schedule for this year it seems more like a cooking/foodie festival than anything to do with cars. There I was thinking it was supposed to be about racing cars :banghead:

Goodwood is very much for the Henley set who are more interested in being seen than actually watching the cars and to fill Lord Snooty’s coffers.

OK, they need to pay their way so the other activities help; but Silverstone seems to have changed beyond recognition.

This leaves the question, where can you go to enjoy a proper classic car weekend that is for people who want to see these cars being raced? Not being overrun by screaming children would be a definite preference.

Spa Classic is always a great spectacle, devoid of the posturing claptrap that seems to have pervaded every aspect of our hobby.

The drive there is good too.

I can recommend this event at Castle Combe It’s far more low key than Goodwood or Silverstone.

I agree that the Silverstone Classic has gone in an unfortunate direction but there is still a full racing programme(?) and this year, at the last minute, the JEC has been granted parking back up on the top of banking and probably as far away from the madding crowds as you can get.

It's certainly making me reconsider my decision not to attend anymore after last year's disaster.

It looks like Silverstone are actually going back to Classic Cars next year. Email saying Carfest is taking over the 2026 August Bank Holiday.
Carfest seems more interested in foodies, celebrities ( ), drag racing etc. which is what Silverstone Festival has become.
There are plans for a proper classic car event as well next year, details to be announced. Will be there this year anyway and fingers crossed for what we used to enjoy next year :fingerscrossed:

Good news👍👍👍👍.
Just been advised that the ‘proper’ Silverstone Classic will be held over the last weekend of July next year, so put it in your diaries.👍👍👍👍👍👍.

Things are changing. I had a spare few hours so went to the Knebworth Classic Car show on Aug BH.

One of the features of the arena was to get the loudest cars in, rev them and award a cup to the loudest car.

God knows what Chris Storey would have made of this!

Angus, I’m sure Chris would be turning in his grave! There is hope the Classic will return in its previous format where we would even see the old Le Mans Bentleys thundering around. It might take a year or two to prove itself attractive to those owners/drivers but let’s hope it’ll be worth attending and become a meeting place for like minded enthusiasts on classic not loud cars.
