Now they are desperately searching for a virgin to sacrifice

All the excitement - hope those that spent money to see it didn't witness what I did. Totally overcast, went marginally darker for a few minutes, then back to normal. Couldn't have blinded myself if I'd looked at the sky with a telescope.
Can't wait for the next one - really, can't wait; I'll probably be dead before a decent eclipse is seen again!

We had a crystal clear sky but there was nothing much to see other than a slight, although eerie, dimming of the light. I was outside working on a car and there was hardly any difference. What were all those people who claimed traffic accidents would be up massively and it was unsafe for children to walk to school on about?

Here in Cheshire we had a thin layer of cloud, and viewed through my welding helmet the shadow was clearly visible and well defined , but , as David has said, the diminution of light was no more than one would expect on a moderately dull day with heavy cloud . This was strikingly different from the 1999 total eclipse, which I was lucky enough to see in Austria , when it went really quite dark , with minimal light of a greenish hue, and the birds did indeed fall silent, and the solar corona was clearly visible . Today, we both thought that if we had not known it was happening, we would have been unlikely to notice what actually happened

The report I read claimed it would be very dark and motorists would forget to switch on their lights and crash into one another. It also said drivers would be "rubber-necking" to see the view and not concentrating. Kids would need high viz jackets and torches, parents should escort them to school in the darkness.

I didn't think that you Brits had ever seen the sun, eclipse or not.

I managed to see it sitting on board a flight into Glasgow this morning. I'd selected a port side seat before realising my flight North would coincide with it. Above the clouds with the sun & moon at my 4 o'clock, there was a slight dimming of the light when the sun was at its most obscured. On final approach to runway 23 however, I got a good view of the latter part of the eclipse thanks to cloud acting like a filter to a greater or lesser extent. The pictures of it taken with my phone are all disappointing though.

Now forgive me if I'm wrong (as I am a mere uneducated Essex boy) but I thought those in Andover worshipped the sun at a place called Stonehenge! Running around at solstice time unclothed, praying to the sun god, so guess there aren't any virgins down there either?

SESH, I'm not sure which is worse, running round naked or in white stilettos?

Glad they found a virgin somewhere so we can enjoy the sunshine another day.

The Sunbeam Stiletto is considered by many to be the most desirable, certainly the most sought after, Imp model. It's name probably has something to do with the existing Sunbeam Rapier, shrink a rapier and it becomes a stiletto (medieval dagger with a very slim blade, elegant and wicked).
It combined the sleek coup? lines of the Californian and the engine of the Imp Sport. The Stiletto had four headlights as standard, along with a vinyl roof (always black Leathercloth). The dashboard is the most noticeable difference with the interior. This large, black, moulded piece of engineering (peculiar only to this model) featured novel ideas such as warning lights which can be dipped for night time driving.
All Stiletto finishes have white twin coachlines - except Polar White, which has twin red.
Stiletto models only had wheels painted black. They had the Sunbeam stainless steel wheel trims as standard.

I do have an imp kit which once was a stiletto.

Its a Concept Centaur, a cousin of the Durango95, derived from the Probe 15...
