Hello everyone,
I imported my e-type (LHD and FHC) from Canada, which was previously imported from US.
I have the heritage certificate with "original destributor = british leyland, New York, USA" a date of dispatch in september 1970 and the name of the first owner.
I just have a part of his History and i want to retrieve the full owner list since the beginning.
I have the last US title and a registration plate of California.
So is it possible to retrieve a part of history with this registration plate ? (if the registration plate remain the same for all his life)
Thank you in advance for all your advice,
Grégoire

#2 Re: History Tracing US
It is illegal in the US for a state DOT to give out such information except (roughly speaking) for legitimate government business.
The paper trail that is provided by maintenance receipts is usually the only way we know about past owners.
Your best bet is informal searches and queries on the internet.
CA is a state where the license plate stays with the car, so if it's an old tag and you post it on the various Jag forums perhaps a previous owner will notice it.

Hello Gregoire
I too have been searching for information on my car which I imported from the US. At present I am getting some help from another couple of members in the USA and hope that in the next couple of weeks will be able to post an article here that will help all those in a similar situation. The help I am getting includes a chap who worked inside Jaguar LandRover USA for over 35 years and knows how their internal systems operated on the ground.
There is also a chap called Jeff Murray at Vintage Car Research who is a lawyer with access to many different avenues of information, and he will undertake individual cases investigating the history of your car. His fees are not inexpensive, but he claims to dig out information even when the trail appears to go cold. Perhaps you might like to put his company name into the Net and read what he offers.
So please keep a watch for as soon as I have all the details together I will publish it here.
Tony
