Centre consol / gearbox tunnel cubby box refurb

Good evening All

I hope you are all well, after several month of inactivity I have decided to maybe refurbish the interior of the car,( series 2
A couple of questions
Has anybody re covered the centre console with one of the sets from Bas or similar and how easy was it ?
My car has hardura in several places , inc under and behind the seats would it of had carpet as well on top ?

Does anyone know of anyone who offers a recovering service?

Your car wouldn't have had carpet under and behind the seats.

I'm sure BAS would recover your centre console - they did mine.

Hi Grant...easy enough to do yourself if your capable. ....any of the trimmers though will do it BAS, Aldridge, Skinners etc

Hi Grant,
I would recommend that you have a go yourself, especially if you are ok with DIY.
If you have access to E-type Club magazine no.167, October 2018, you will read how Ross Wilson recovered his central cubby box. This is the second part of an excellent 3 part article that spurred me on to completely redo the interior of my car. I even changed my mind on the colour when I saw how good his car looked with a light grey interior. The only bits I was not too confident about doing were the seats and the headlining, so I entrusted these to my brilliant local trimmer.
Don't think you can do it all in a weekend though! I ordered the main trim kit from Aldridge Trimming, with a few items that didn't have to match, (but were cheaper!) from BAS International. It was all delivered 2 days before the first lockdown in March last year and, up until a couple of months ago, I was putting in a good 30-odd hours a week. I've still got one or two tiny trim bits to complete but it's ostensibly finished........but then again I do tend to be a bit of a perfectionist!
Jonathon Skinner is a real gentleman but you will pay more for his first class service. If money is no object then I would definitely recommend him. Ross used Jonathan's trim kit in his article.

Thank you for your reply , I have spoken to bas and they what £489 to do it , which although seems a lot is what I thought it would be , but the kit is £119 +vat and post so I may do a bit more research and have ago myself,
Your sounds like a good job, Do you have any pictures of yours?

Hi Grant,
As requested, here are some pictures:-
The 1st pic shows my car as it was, with the "biscuit" interior, before I had it converted to right hand drive.
The 2nd pic shows the cubby box, as it was.
The 3rd pic shows some of the kit for the new grey trim........you can probably just about make out the cubby box top, just to the left of centre. The top itself is leather and comes preformed from Aldridge Trimming with the piping already done, seam at the back. The sides are in matching vinyl. I found, from experience, that leather is very forgiving if you happen to slip with a scalpel, but with vinyl this is not the case! I made a false bottom to the cubby box from thin mdf and covered it with some spare vinyl. You will probably notice that the top is a bit deeper than standard...........this is because I added some extra foam!
The final photo's show the retrimmed cubby box in position.
