Aw... now i am disappointed and i haven't seen it yet

yes, i am told mine came today, but i am not allowed to have it till my birthday on monday, so i cant even say if i find it dissappointing

Mine arrived today- slightly disappointed, could have had more text and showed more prominent cars.
just glad ordered the cheaper version

The worst part is the fatuous 'Study in Simplicity' where Ian Callum talks to Stephen Bayley (with faux notepad in hand). Always thought Callum was dismissive of the E-Type despite pretending to like it:

" ... a lot of people think the E-Type Jaguar is the most beautiful car ever made. I mention this and Callum frowns a little then after a moment nods really quite keenly "Certainly one of them" he says." And the others would be the ones designed by you Ian?

"To Callum's eye the rear side window could have been lowered by an inch resulting in a changed expressive graphic of much greater dynamism." There you go, I knew in my water the E-Type was ugly.

"The cruel truth? It must have been very hard work to drive an E-Type. Those Sixties King's Road E-Types - Terence Conran, Ringo Starr and Simon Dee - must have been addled with sweat and cramp before they lost sight of Sloane Square" I am cancelling all future road trips ........

And don't get me started on the Beano comic style Dewis route map to Geneva and the 'Illustrated Guide to the E-Type' drawn with cartoons rather than the real thing. But it does say 'The Official Anniversary Collectors' Edition' on the spine so that makes it OK then?

I dislike this book with a vengeance! Expect it will be stacked up at Bargain Books and priced ?7.99 within 6 months.

That`s because he knows he cant better it! .........

Callum also pointed out that we?ll never see another production car quite like the E-Type for one simple reason: government regulations won?t allow this kind of pure form to make it into showrooms unaffected by the need for good crash test scores and other safety rules.

Well, I have received my book today, and except the part with Ian Callum, I found it great. It's a celebrative book, not an informative or technical one.

So it's really well presented with really nice photos.

I'm not disappointed at all, because I was expecting something like this, and I have bought the VIP version...

To be fair. I quite liked the book too, I have other far more wordy tomes from the likes of Paul Skilleter so I was only expecting a celebration of the car.

Must be nice to have your car featured in a book.

If you have a chassis number between 1E50262 and 1E50280 you will be delighted as there is a page from the Car Record Book detailing your car's build.

Thats a great page, i would love to have a look through those car record books,
such detail, like key numbers, original registration numbers etc.
i see the name coombes + sons is listed 7th down on the list.
any link?

I received my book (normal copy) and I can agree with ChrisC and Antoun :
I quite like the book also. I did not expect an encyclopedia or new big text book about the E-Type and probably therefor can enjoy the nice set up, great photos and general information available. It is indeed celebrating the 50 years
and covers many aspect with good illustrations.

Fully agree, I have my JDHT certificate but seeing this page really gives you the desire to have the book in your hands and go through the pages (after seeing the page where you car is of course).

:) Chris.... i have read your book soooooo many times.

It is indeed the best Etype book out there. Brilliant in its style, content, photos, layout. Its interesting and informative and very good value for money. A must buy for every Etype owner :)

Actually all joking apart - it IS a good book. Well done.

Hi Carsten
Most of it is with the publisher now except a bit of text and the picture captions I have to finish. He may not start until he gets everything, but I think the studio may be working on what they have - not sure. Believe it's slated for August. Would have been earlier but my mother's unexpected death and family stuff have intruded this year. Embarrassing, but there you go - it's a hobby after all, and sometimes it has to take a back seat. Won't get much done this weekend with Stoneleigh either. Next week it should be done.

Philip Porter's latest book on the Lightweights is now available but the price may be an obstacle for many:

With 528 pages and 700 photos it is undoubtedly a comprehensive tome on the subject of 12 cars.
