Footwell/Heelwell sealing plugs

Having had water ingress through the footwells (S1 4.2) I found metal plugs in the two footwell holes. They appear to be to the original design on the Jaguar parts list (BD19721, 7/8" dia.) with 2 pressed clips to hold them in place. The clips have rusted and the plugs no longer seal.



I can't find these on the SC or Barrett parts lists, but I think a rubber grommet would be an improvement on the original - either blind or having a one-way seal. The latter would allow any water running off the sills into the footwell to escape but prevent any water coming in from outside.

What plug is usually used nowadays ?

Nick, I think most people use rubber blanking grommets now.

There's no way you'd get any kind of one-way valve thing in that slim a profile, working only under gravity.

The metal wotsits are still available somewhere - I thought I got mine at SNGB? If not, I got the very similar-looking metal blanking plug for the inner sills on my OTS. Might be the same part number - not sure.

Looking at the parts list again (thank-you Dave), the qty 4, BD15588/5 plastic plug seems to be more appropriate & is the correct quantity.

I can't think that the metal one is correct for the footwell - they are not 'redundant holes' are they ?

Hmm, it's your car of course, but when the maker provides an illustrated parts list and you have the old part as a pattern, it takes a perverse sort of mindset to deliberately buy the wrong part, surely?

Why would you wish to purchase a deep-section 3/8th plastic plug where Jaguar fitted a wafer-thin 7/8th metal plug?

Seems my memory isn't as bad as I thought, since as suspected the metal BD.19721 part is correct and is identical to the sill plug. I hope you don't buy the last stock as I need a few for my FHC! :-)

BD15588/5 is 7/8" diameter not 3/8". If the steel ones go in the footwells where do the 4, BD15588/5 plastic ones go ?

Well, I've ordered 4 of each type from SC Parts to try out (Barratts didn't have any stock). I've left you some of the metal ones !

Sorry, yes, didn't account for the /5.

If it was metal OEM though, I'd stick with metal replacements. Be interested to see how they fit.

Just for completeness, the 2 floor plugs ordered from SC Parts are shown below. The plastic ones arrived quickly, but were 13/16" instead of 7/8" dia. so I have sent them back. The steel ones eventually arrived after about 3 weeks, but they were the correct size. Thus the steel ones have gone in, with a coat of bitumen paint on the mating surface to seal them.

My preference would still be for a draining plug, should anyone come across something suitable.

My footwell / heelwells have holes that are 1-1/16" or 26.5mm diameter x 4, two in each.

There are no J30 references to anything bigger than 7/8" - and even then in plastic - being used anywhere on the floor, and from what I'm reading here the possibly steel originals were nothing like that big.

Has anyone else had this issue, and found a source ?

I obviously did, six years ago, as this is what I used back then ....... and they are satisfactorily robust and well-fitting.
