The 'E' Type Forum

What options are open to Club members who don't have the time or cash (?1,500 per couple!) for the Club's 3 day package? I'm no scrooge but surely I, like many others on here are just normal blokes with young families trying to maintain their own cars as best they can without breaking the bank. I was thinking I might like to go to E50 with my family and perhaps meet a few like-minded E-type people but I can't work out which would be the best day to go, what would be available and how much it would cost. Would I even be allowed to park my car with the other Club elite who had bought the 3 day package?

As as for the Italian job tour....anyone spotted the cost of that one? Breathtaking!

I just wonder sometimes if the Club has the temperature of its mass of members. I remember the clear message from the last members survey was about us wanting more technical articles in the magazine which indicates to me that the majority of us are cash strapped DIY enthusiasts.

What a relief
a like minded E owner , I was really keen to enjoy the 50th celebrations.
difficult to justify the cost.

The wife :? made several noises (non friendly) mostly along the lines
how much, we could all go on an EXTRA holiday for that.

I can afford it, it's more about being comfortable with the spend.
the figures just don't add up.
I guess it's all about priority,and I for one, agree someone should look at at something a little more reasonable.
any ideas?

The Forum is hoping to arrange something with Harry (E Type UK) were at least everyone can meet up at the Silverstone E-Type 50th. All you have to do is make your way to the circuit and pay the going rate to get in. I will talk to Harry and see if there is an opportunity for a Meet & Greet.

I think Philip Porter has already covered this in another topic. He has given a code to use when buying your tickets (at discount prices) so you can book direct with the track. I also think he has also stated that all members of the E Type club are welcome into the inner sanctum with their cars and the use of the clubs tent and services. However it is up to Philip Porter to clarify this. I think the ?1500/per couple is for your hotel accommodation, the reception drinks at the hote, the Big dinner, plus a few other items. I have bought a 3 day ticket, booked the dinner and arranged for my own hotel as I have some arrangements which make it more cost effective.

I am a bit surprised this is not made more clear to club members but I shall try and digs out Philip Porter topic on the situation. I always though the E Type Club and the E Type Forum were closely linked but little exchange between the two seems to happen. This maybe my wrong impression?. Perhaps some of the more long term members of both club and forum can clarify the situation.?

The E-Type Forum is totally independent of the E-Type Club although we carry their logo (and that of our main sponsor E Type UK) on the masthead. We do have a cordial relationship with the Club and I have contact with Abigail should one of their members have problems logging on here. So, for clarity:

1. Being a member of the E-Type Club does not automatically create a membership of this Forum, although all are welcome.

2. Being a member of this Forum does not give you membership of the E-Type Club, partake in their events or be eligible for Club discounts.

3. You do not need to be a member of any of the Jaguar Club's to join this Forum or post here. Again all are welcome.

4. The Forum was created by Harry Fulford of E Type UK and is hosted on his servers. Harry does not have the time to get involved with the Forum (although he visits it regularly) or seek any gain from his sponsorship which speak's volumes for the man himself and his Company. Please occasionally click on his logo at the top of the page and see what he has going on if only as a way of saying thanks!

5. Harry asked me to administer the Forum on his behalf, add information and to encourage greater use. I am not paid for this and it is not my Forum, it belongs to you the members. I am ably assisted by Mark and Angus who also give their time freely and of course all those who happily jump in to share their knowledge and passion.

6. As the Forum is free to join and use we do not have the resources to pay for stand's or have a presence at E-Type events. Anything that is organised tends to be a loose collective of like minded individuals.

I am going on Saturday 23 July only. I am an E Type Club member and spoke with Mary at the club. If you buy an entrance ticket (discounted for club members) and are driving an E Type you will be directed to the inner part of the circuit to be parked with other E Type owners. She explained that the club would have a marquee and that we can park with the other E Type Club cars. We are also welcome at the marquee for a free glass of Champagne. There is also an E Type parade of the F1 circuit for all E Types at midday on Saturday.

Thank for clarifying the situation as I was not sure what the link between the Forum and the Club was.

I am going on the Friday and the Saturday and off to France on the Sunday. I hope to meet up with some of the people off the Forum as I think I owe one or two of them a drink. Now that's providing I know who you all are, as some of you have strange code names . My name, by the way is Tony O'Brien, so if you do talk to me you will know who I am.

Hello,
I think this post is important and I thank you David, to have clarified that.
I'm in the same financial situation than Mark and Paul (that means, I've choices to do)
For the last months, I was quite deceived about, the E type 50 birthday seem "quite exclusive" (I mean "geneva" for example) and the forum was more a relay of the e type club events, than a sugestion force. (My aim is not to to critisize that fact).
I can't go to Silverstone, But i propose you, because I've already booked a ticket for the goodwood revival 2011, that we organize a forum meeting in goodwood?

mark, you could book for the dinner dance on Friday night, then book a room at the hotel direct, and book direct with Silverstone for entry on Saturday, (using the discount code), sat seems the best day to go, e type lap, bands etc.
This way you can join in the fun, and keep costs within reason.

I would also like to say thanks for the clarification.
I thought there may have been a link between the forum and the e-type club.
I subsequently joined the e-type club, rather than one of the others.
I don't think it influenced my decision!
