Just shows how irrelevant and out of touch Jaguar has become and are unlikely to survive as a company beyond 2025. Compare them to Porsche who have a car launched 60 years ago still in production, have a stunning competition record, millions of owners and fans whilst continuing to be world class innovators (see their new six stroke engine).

Interesting comments from one online journalist regarding Porsche’s Six Stroke:

“Adding an extra combustion and power stroke to each revolution of the crankshaft means more horsepower to the wheels – and could also mean a more efficient internal combustion engine.

Or – as can often be the case with patents – it could mean absolutely nothing other than Porsche simply doesn't want anyone else to have or develop this technology.”

Will the next step be to make it hydrogen powered and combined with a hybrid electric….

As for Jaguar or even JLR, what must Lyons be thinking? Maybe :banghead:

PS anyone for sleeve valves? With modern precision manufacturing the old associated problems could surely be solved.

Make sure you have your sick-bucket to hand when you read Mr Felix Page’s “analysis” in Steve’s link to the Autocar “article”.

Order Of The Brown Nose, no doubt.

Puffery swallowed hook-line-and-sinker, regurgitated in predictably breathless style.

They’ll pull the plug one day soon on this whole Jaguar Classic fantasy, as the dive in the original cars’ values must surely make their prices look more and more preposterous, and you can’t run a business on the back of a few idiots who want silver switches and a gold-leaf growler.

Actually you can! The whole "designer clothes" business is proof that's not the case....

Someone designs a few beautiful bespoke items for the catwalk - a completely loss making idea from start to finish - but they make their money mass producing totally ordinary but overpriced jeans with "Tommy Crapface" embossed in huge lettering over every piece of their clothing and the public just laps it up.

The truth is that Jaguar screwed up when they let Mazda clean up with the MX5. That was the car that should have been the F-type - everyone wanted one and they sold in droves.

kind regards
Marek

Not quite sure how they can say that Fuel Injection has replaced the carburettors when the photographs clearly show a row of SU HD8s!

can't they use the carb bodies to house the injector system? Sure I've heard something like that.

It's quite simple. You omit to fit the piston and hide a fuel injector, high pressure fuel line and wiring loom inside. Somewhere there'll be a crank sensor fitted and an ECU aswell. Rick Paton (Patton?) did this with Strombergs on a Triumph website at least 15 years ago and the Jaguar world is just playing catch up.

kind regards
Marek

A few years ago I saw a test mule (a Mk 2 IIRC) with SU carb based fuel injection. It was being developed by Burlen. Indications that it was FI were obvious, fuel lines and a loom where they shouldn't be, a throttle position sensor, airflow and temperature sensors in the inlet, lambda sensors in the exhaust..... But it still looked like a SU carb setup feeding the engine.

I've no idea what happened to the project.

The Burlen system was being developed by Taylor Automotive. Last time I spoke to them, (Taylors) the system was nearly ready but Burlen pulled the plug.

NOT a fan. Gold-plated horn pushes and mother of pearl? Yuk.

Mashing together the classic Series 1 lines with a Series 3 Commemerative concept, and then have you seen the centre console? Seats that look like a wicker pinic basket for good measure.

It's a no from Dr J
