Well it looks like the end of the road for this forum for me!
Don't know what a VPN is and I am sure I don't want one, managed quite well without one since we joined the internet age.
Goodbye and thanks for all your help.

The way the UK is going and the world in general VPN is becoming a necessity if not for anything else then for reasons of personal security.

You can still read all the information and comments but not view the images if you haven’t obtained VPN. It’s not a big issue!

Just being dumb here, but why can I see David’s photo in this post #24, but not others in other recent posts which say I am in the wrong region ?
I haven’t changed anything or got a VPN.
Cheers,

Well I’ve gone ahead and paid for IPvanish which David (Heuer) said he uses. A couple of requests to them for confirmation that my wife can also use the same account (yes).
Now I can see the glamour photos again
But of far greater importance, all the photos posted in topics that help show how or where something has been fitted or sorted out. This forum is invaluable
and paying a few pounds a year to keep full access is well worth the money.

Upon reading this information I signed up with Nord VPN (£66.00 plus vat) on Oct 12th and since then my laptop has become slow and unreliable - but more to the point I still have not been able to access the forum pics and the purple "content" screen remains!
This morning my server blocked my account and had to login and set up a new password - this process seems to have partly unsubscribed the Nordic VPN as their logo has disappeared and the speed has improved.
I contacted Apple support and explained the situation, they said they do not recommend this VPN - so presently I'm requesting a refund from NordVPN and will endeavour to find an alternative method. One forgets just how complicated and time consuming all this has become these days.
I'm now old enough to recall that when I first started my business in 1979 and wished to set up a business overdraft, I called my bank, spoke to the assistant manager and explained my circumstances and was immediately put through to the manager. How much do you want? £2,000.00 what collateral do you have? I own a 1963 Jaguar Etype (lived in rented accommodation) you can see my priorities!
Where is the car? in my garage that happened to be about 300 yards from my bank, can I meet you there in 2 hours? yes. The money was in my account by the end of the day!
Oh happy days....

Try IPVanish, I have used it for years. Things to remember when using any VPN:
1. Try and use a VPN server in a country closest to you. I use Dublin and Copenhagen unless I want a UK presence. Distance increases internet latency so you may experience slow down if you decide you want to be in Japan! Experiment and run speed check until you are happy with performance.
2. Some websites will not load if you are using a VPN (e.g. NHS, DVLA and other Government bodies) even with a POP in the UK so you need to disconnect. This is because a VPN obfuscates your location and encrypts all the data which is great to prevent others hacking you or listening in but does not suit others.
3. Some commerce websites will show prices in you current VPN location (no idea what the exchange rate of the Kroner is!) so you need to select GBP from the drop down or disconnect.
4. The VPN (at least in IPVanish) will give you a list of servers in each country and which ones have the least occupancy and lowest latency to ensure best performance.
5. VPN's are widely used by business so they are not directly associated with nefarious activities but to protect systems from being hacked.
6. I used my VPN when I wanted to watch American TV stations or listen to radio banned here. A widely respected radio app, TuneIn, is partly banned in the UK due to legal issues surrounding copyright infringement, specifically related to streaming foreign radio stations that are not licensed in the UK. A court ruling in 2019 determined that TuneIn could not provide access to these stations, leading to the removal of many foreign content options for UK users. It was expected every other Country would follow the UK example but, unsurprisingly, none have. How is listening to The Beatles on a UK station any different to listening to the same song on any other radio station in the world? So virtually nip over to France and the app works for over 4,000 stations.

to add to number 2 above:
Some sites log the IP addresses that VPNs use and automatically block accesses coming in through them. One of the major car forum software suppliers use this technique as a simple SPAM protection measure on the premise that spammers use VPNs to hide their activities.
The BBC do similar so you'll find yourself on BBC.com (with adverts) if you use a VPN to access BBC.co.uk. Likewise using a UK VPN outlet whilst overseas in the hope of accessing BBC.co.uk will fail.

Some VPN's work better than others at specific tasks. This review may help you decide based on your needs:

#35 Re: Attention....loss of Images
mmmm. Curious. I have bought Surfshark VPN and setting my country to Belgium allowed me to view pictures on here, including the JAGUAR "E" TYPE logo at the top of the page which just appeared as a blue rectangle previously.
To get into my bank I either have to turn the VPN off or reset the country to UK, as I did.
This morning I look on here (VPN still UK) and I can see the forum logo and pictures on Collecters Corner which I had viewed previously but new pictures posted later gave me the "Content not available in this country" blue rectangle.
Seems odd to me

Not really. Your browser automatically caches images to save time if you view them again. The ones you were able to see from the UK were previously stored locally and did not require reloading however the new ones will appear with the region message. If you clear your browser cache they will all be invisible from the UK until you next embark on a continental tour.
