E Type Video
#1 E Type Video
JayEmm on Cars (Youtube) has just released a new video featuring a car we restored about 1o years ago. Interesting comments - oh and the steering wheel upgrade disaster was a removable one from CMC.

Excellent

.
When we were parked at cafe at the top of a mountain pass in Switzerland (sorry, can’t spell its name!) with a Ferrari one side and a Maserati the other, our E Type was much photographed with no pictures being taken of the other two

Nice video, the car looks awesome Angus. Does it have electric steering as well as the releasable steering wheel?
As for the presenter, well not really my sort of watch, and I certainly don't agree with his take on a few E type market themes.
The E type is possibly the most photographed and filmed British sports car of all time and remains an icon across all generations.
Wherever I go in mine I am thumbs upped and from all ages. Yes there is a pullback in prices, but there is whole world of difference between E types, and to get from an average one to the best is extremely expensive and will only get more expensive , with fewer people who can do that work.
I believe them to be no different to other Classics at the moment, yes there is a generational argument going on , and prices have fallen across a whole section of classics. But there has no real growth in economies over the last few years, there is no feel good factor and wars on several continents. Try selling Aston DB4/5/6 for anything approaching levels seen in 2017/2019 and you will be waiting a long time.
Let the good times roll and buyers will be back for the best cars. People want to have fun and enjoy the fruits of their labour and what better way to do that than in a Global Icon. The next time one features in a major new TV / Film role the buyers will be back and they will be younger than me!!

Thanks for adding all that Andrew.
Your remarks about the difference between the cars at the different ends of the E Type « Spectrum » - when on the surface they might appear similar - rang very true to me.
There can’t be that many vehicles where the inherent complexities and foibles enable an owner\restorer to make such massive differences to how the thing actually behaves in use, which is perhaps why I have found owning and restoring one so immensely rewarding.
It also explains why I would never buy one that had been restored by drama teacher from Yorkshire, even if (especially if) he wrote a book about how he did it.
Looking under an E-Type bonnet, and with all due respect, it takes about 20 seconds to grasp whether you’re dealing with someone who gets it, or someone who doesn’t.
On a recent Rhone-valley car rally, with 20 or so exotics including recent Alpines, Ferraris, Porsches of various ages, Corvettes and so on, the E-Type was the one that got the selfies.
Wherever I take it, I too am always surprised at the level of engagement and admiration it provokes from all sections of the public, be they casual bystanders or car enthusiasts.
If you add to that the fact that it is so capable on the road, so fast, and so comfortable (this never ceases to amaze passengers), all of which belie it being 65 years old, it has to be a rare example of where the reality beats the hype, even Jeremy Clarkson’s hype, and beats even the car’s appearance.
I just count myself very lucky to be able to enjoy all that.
